Chapter 15

Do you try to stop this mad plan, or figure that an 85th level cleric knows what she is doing?

She's got this.

At the rate she is moving, even with all the vermin around, you have trouble keeping up, and lose her completely when she passes into the deforested area around the volcano. About ten minutes later you feel a peculiar sensation, one new to you, the energy you receive from her worship suddenly vanishing and then suddenly coming back, but... From a different place?

You refocus on that area, using the eyes of a few ants guarding a colony, and realize you are back in that village she mentioned. You were here about 3 months ago when a 'Giant Army Ant Swarm' event took place, and watched, sadly, as all the ants were slaughtered, but this place is totally different than you remember it, crawling with both ants the size of a human thumb and high level 'heroes' blasting them from existence for kicks. The place is peaceful, bucolic, happy, clean... ~In short, disgusting.~ You think to yourself.

And there, right in the middle of the village and still coughing by reflex, is Abigail, no longer dressed in dirty robes of one of Anari's favored but pristine brown robes of one of YOUR champions, lovingly embroidered front and back with your Sigil, a circle of ten Baneworms surrounding a Rat King.

What happened? I thought you were all gung-ho to get to the avatar creature, how did YOU end up dying and re-spawning? You ask, puzzled.

"Well, turns out that without my GEAR I cannot breathe in the sulfurous super-heated smoke above an active volcano, and I didn't realize that till I was right over the caldera, AND, it seems that, again sans my gear, immersion in lava for a full minute is an 'auto fatality', regardless of how many HP you still have left. The rest, I think, you know." Abigail says in a snarl, though you think it is directed at game mechanics, not you.

Sounds like we need to go retrieve your gear. You say resignedly, and thank your lucky stars that heroes don't lose power when they die or forget what has come before. ~Wait, actually they do! If they die from their own actions instead of being killed they lose XP...~ You think with slight worry, but looking at Abigail's status readout you realize that not only was she at level cap, she must have been at what is known as 'over-cap', stuck permanently 1 XP away from gaining ANOTHER level, and this little fall into the volcano hasn't brought her under the total for 85th level. ~Still, better avoid another of those...~ you think to yourself.

Out of the blue you suddenly sense that something important is going on back with the halfling rogue you rescued earlier...

Do you leave to find out what, or stick with your high priestess?
