Real Tests

You had a shake for breakfast. All the replenishing vitamins, minerals, proteins and fibers that you required all blended into an easily consumed drink. It made you feel prepared for the day ahead. There was extra pep in your step.

Doctor McGee and Wonder Woman were both in the lab already. You saw that the space had been rearranged. She had the Amazon laying back in a sort of futuristic looking dentist chair. There were small sticky nodes placed on parts of her skin sending their readings to sensors surrounding the chair.

“Nice of you to finally make an appearance Doctor,” Tina said as her way of greeting you. You didn’t know they had been waiting and gave Wonder Woman a quizzical look. She shrugging those muscular shoulders and smiled.

“Um, good morning,” was what you went with.

“I’m sure it will be,” Tina smirked, getting up from her console. “How are the hands? Zatanna said she worked her magic.”

“Much better,” you nodded, looking down at the small wraps around your palms and fingers. “She said it will be all good in a couple of days. Can’t wait to use my own hands again.” And it sounded a little dirty when you said it but that’s just how it came out.

When you looked up, Tina was right in front of you and had a thumb hooked into your waistband, already slowly starting to pull down your pants. Her gaze was arresting.

“Well, until then…” she began, eyes drifting down past your belly button. “It’s time to give Diana her first dose of the day.”

“Oh… Doctor McGee?” Wonder Woman piped in, and you both turned to look at the woman, a little caught up. “I’ve already had my first dose. Although I wouldn’t mind another…”

The eyes she put on you were making your ears hot.

“Sorry?” Tina tilted her head. “You’ve already had a dose? When?”

“This morning… I decided to pay John a visit and he administered my dose for me in his room,” Wonder Woman explained straightly. McGee looked to you and you nodded.

“Right, yeah,” you confirmed, a little quietly. Tina blinked at you as she took in the news, then she let go of your waist band with a snap.

“Diana… why didn’t you mention this sooner?” she asked, turning back to the monitors now and rubbing the bridge of her nose.

“Oh I didn’t realise tha-”

“Now I have recalibrate every test!” Tina burst out, interrupting Wonder Woman’s response and throwing her hands in the air. “No wonder your readings were so stable! I was trying to account for the… ugh! Nevermind!”

You watched the scientist slump down into a chair, hunching over the console and quickly tapping at keys. She made it seem like the extra configurations were really upsetting her. You heard her muttering about charts being off and graphs needing to be recontextualized. While it did sound like a lot of work, this seemed like a slight overreaction…

“I can help with the config,” you offered, stepping up behind her.

“You really can’t,” she said brusquely. She swivelled in her chair and wiggled her fingers at you. “I need someone with hands.”

The expression of surprise on your face made Tina catch herself and she scratched her head then turned away. “I mean… no it’s fine,” she sighed, trying to **** serenity back into her voice and push away the irritation. “Just… the prep has to all be redone with new data sets. It’s fine.” She was silent for a second, taking a breath. She tried to hide her irritation as she started to recalibrate. “Can you tell me what time you gave Diana her dose?”

“About 6am,” you answered professionally. “A few minutes after.”

The doctor nodded, tapping some keys.

“Was it a big load?” she asked, and you couldn’t see her face but her voice sounded a little strange. You thought back to your excellent wakeup call while Wonder Woman remained quiet in the chair behind you, sensing the tension in the air.

“It was a little above average,” you informed her. “I cum about eighteen to twenty percent more after a night’s sleep.”

“Right,” she said, the keys clacking with the **** of her swift fingers. “And she swallowed all of it?” You were only looking at the back of her head but saw her tilting it, awaiting your response.

“She did… she swallowed all of it,” you confirmed. There was some more typing.

“Good.”

Clickity clacks ensued for a bit.

“Tina… I’m sorry I should have told you earlier about my going to John,” Wonder Woman said, unable to bear the awkward silence. There came another sigh from the doctor and she did a little bit more work before standing again.

“Don’t apologize, Diana,” she said, turning to her friend and giving a sympathetic smile. “It’s actually… a good thing that you’re being more proactive in your treatment. I was just a little annoyed because we wasted a bit of time now. The system is going to need about ninety minutes to rerun my simulations and recalculate my thesis with this new data. But that doesn’t matter.” She looked to you, not quite sure if she was meant to be upset at you herself. “As long as you’re getting your doses it’s fine, Diana.”

Right. It was all fine.

The doctor went over to Diana and started to peel the sticky sensors off of her skin. “This will take a while… you two go stretch your legs until the programs are ready,” she said. Wonder Woman got out of her seat, shooting you a significant look.

“Okay Tina,” she said simply and obediently as she headed out of the lab, expecting you to follow.

“Are you sure you don’t need some help?” you tried one more time. McGee shook her head.

“There isn’t a way to speed up the process with more people,” she said. “Just go for a walk with our superhero. Try not to dose her before you get back, though.” There was levity to her tone but seriousness to the order. She was already refocused on the busy monitors as you turned to catch up with Wonder Woman.
