Flee from the elf

That look in her eye sends chills down your back as you look up at her. You don’t want any of what she’s offering, it’s too risky. Besides the Adventurer’s Guild isn’t far off now you could make it if you went fast. You pretend to say something as the elf leans in to listen intently. Just then, you turn heel and sprint as fast as you can down another alley. The elf gives chase,

“I wasn’t done with you dwarf!” she yells as you begin to gain ground. Your bare feet echo off the stone floor as you navigate the alleyways. Looking ahead you only see one way forward now, a way that leads out to the main street. Shooting a glance over your shoulder, the elf is still in hot pursuit as you have little choice but to exit the alley onto the street. You turn around to look ahead and-WHAM. The sound of metal clinking rings out as you bump into something sending you sprawling out on your ass. An armored guard looks down in horror as you lay sprawled out naked in the middle of the street. Pedestrians stop to watch the scene that’s unfolding. You feel a strong set of hands haul you to your feel as metal shackles are placed around your wrists. A guard leans over the fallen guard trying to rouse him to consciousness. You watch him pull off the guard’s helmet and check his pulse.

“He’s dead. Looks like his head cracked open when he landed.” The guard says in a sorrowful tone. “Everyone saw it, this dwarf knocked him over and killed him!” another guard yells. You try and explain your case but your words fall on deaf ears.

“Take her to the pillory. Let her rot there until we figure out what to do with her.” The investigating guard says to the one that holds you. Your fears have been realized as the guard pushes you to walk in front of him. With little chance of escaping this situation you silently pray to any god that is willing to listen.
