Chapter 4 by ErisAphrodite ErisAphrodite

What does she do?

Hides the Fairy behind her back.

Xalendra quickly turned to face the door with the fairy held behind her back. As the light grew ever closer, she felt the little fae begin to move in her hands. The movement turned to buzzing, and it started tickling her hands quite a bit, loosening her hold. Before she knew it, the fairy was almost free, and she couldn't have it fly about for others to witness, nor could she act innocent with her hands behind her back, and so she quickly slipped it under the skirt of her basque and pulled the bodice tight around her waist.

The footsteps came the rest of the way down the hall, and a girl appeared outside her cousin's room with a lantern in hand. “My lady?” the girl asked. “I heard your door open. Are you alright? What are you doing in here?”

It was Xalendra's handmaiden, Kylia. The young girl stood in her white gown, shining her lantern into the room to illuminate it.

Xalendra clasped her hands before herself, offering a polite smile. She was about to come up with an excuse for her being here, when the buzz of the fae alerted her to more movement underneath her clothing. It somehow wound up slipping beneath the waistband of her stockings, and threatened to venture further. The tickle at the small of her back was distracting, yet she managed to maintain some composure.

“Ky,” Xalendra said in greeting. “I'm fine. My bed's blanket was just a bit heavy for me this night, and I though I'd look for something thinner in here.” She saw the girl's brown eyes turn from confused to understanding. “No need to trouble yourself for that. I'll be alright on my own.”

Another tickle then sent a shiver up Xalendra's spine, causing her to shudder. She couldn't tell if Kylia noticed or not.

Does her excuse work?
