Chapter 24 by fredmarley139 fredmarley139

Which should you pick?

Ooh ... What's a Tree Fiend?

Intrigued by the second option, you decide to become a Tree Fiend. Immediately, you are wracked with pain as your body begins to shift and transform. Your roots twine together into twin stalks, while your central shaft begins to thicken and become stiffer. Your vines start twisting together into two bundles of their own on opposite sides of what was your central stalk. Your flesh becomes more and more bark-like, as your flower-like head is wracked by changes you can't see but cause you immense pain.

Eventually, the transformation is done and you examine yourself. Your body is now roughly humanoid and covered in bark. You have two legs made from your roots; a trunk-like torso; two arms made from flexible branches and vines; and a head that resembles a twisted stump with a few branches coming out the top. A closer look at your arms reveals that while the outer layers are covered in bark, the inner layers are made up of green vines of varying thickness. The ends of your arms feature a collection of grasping tendrils, which you quickly form into rough looking hands. The front of your head contains a piece bark resembling a face with two glowing green eyes.

After some quick experimentation, you are relieved to find you can still send out your roots and vines from yourself at a respectable distance. You're pretty sure you can't shoot darts anymore, but perhaps you will be able to shoot other projectiles in time. You take a quick look at your stats.

Wow! You jumped a full fifteen levels. The group had been stronger than you thought. The main offensive power must have been the magic users, with the melee fighter providing cover and support. Usually, it worked the other way round. You shiver briefly at thought of what might have happened without your Absorb. The same good luck that allowed you to make your first level up must still be with you.

What happens next?
