The spirit makes people unable to see or hear Jamie

By the time Jamie reached the beach, at least a half hour had passed. It only took a few minutes to walk over the hill and onto the beach, and, by the time she got there, she was beginning to feel tired from the effort she'd had to put into getting there.

Once she was on the beach, Jamie paused, breathing heavily. She looked around. The beach wasn't exactly crowded, but there were people here and there. The sunbathers were still laid out on there towels, the volleyball players were engrossed in their game, and her school friends were still gathered around the campfire. She was relieved to see no sign of the creepy guys.

For a number of seconds, nothing happened. Jamie's brow furrowed in puzzlement. This was odd. She was standing in plain sight, right on the edge of the beach, naked, bound, gagged, clearly in need of help, but no one was reacting to her presence.

Puzzled and a little upset, Jamie hopped over to a refreshment stand next to the locker rooms. The worker there, a tall man in his 30s, was probably a county employee, she thought, and he would certainly help her.

When she stood right in front of him, she spoke as well as she could through her gagged lips. "Please help me," she tried to say. "I'm tied up, and I can't get free."

The words that came out of her mouth sounded like, "Prr hrr mr. Rrm trd rp, na R crn't grt fr." She found her inability to speak clearly to be very frustrating, especially at a time like this.

To Jamie's amazement, the man behind the counter paid no attention to her. He didn't look at her, or speak to her, or acknowledge her presence in any way.

Jamie tried again, again with the same lack of acknowledgement. She tried to figure out a way to kick the counter in front of her, but knew she couldn't do it with her ankles and knees bound.

When the man behind the concession stand failed to help her, Jamie looked around. Not far away, she saw a couple with a child. She turned away from the counter and slowly hopped the 15 or so yards to where they lay. She stood over them and once again asked for help.

Neither of them seemed to notice her. Concerned now, Jamie tried again. Again, the couple and their child acted like she wasn't there. And a third time, they failed to respond to her request for help.

Feeling tears coming to her eyes, Jamie gave up and turned away from the couple. She hopped down the beach to where her school friends were still gathered in front of their campfire.

One after another, Jamie stood in front of them and asked for help, and, one after another, none of them acted like she was there.

When the last of her friends failed to acknowledge her, Jamie let the tears come. She stood and sobbed and wondered what was happening to her, and what she was going to do now.
