Chapter 8 by Elist Elist

Will you choose the heaviest loadout to your special ability, or will you choose something else?

Battle mace and plate armor

Emerging from the equipment shop was a warrior clad in steel plate armor. A long mace was strapped to her back. It was evident from the quality of her equipment that this was no mere lowbie.

"This feels good," you say. "I wonder where I can test my combat abilities?"

As if in response to your question, the warning bells begin to toll. It signaled an eminent monster raid, and event where monsters attacked the village. Usually you would be running for the nearest hiding spot now, but this time things were different. To anyone's eyes, you were one of the adventurers now.

You rush over to the east gate, where the bell had sounded. There were already a line of adventurers when the monsters swarmed in from the village gates. The sounds of battle rang out. You rush forward, mace in hand, ready to smash some asshole monsters.

This raid was comprised of goblins. Ugly little green skinned buggers, they made up for their weak constitution with numbers and malice. The adventurers cut through the first wave of goblins with easy, but the second wave was already wearing them down. Seeing a goblin flank one of the warriors, you rush forward and bring the mace down on its head.

SQUISH!

The mace pummels the goblin straight into the ground, turning it into a mess of green and red. Your first kill! In battle, anyway. The warrior you saved nods with appreciation and turns to concentrate on the goblin he was fighting. You slowly wade into the thick of battle, delivering more swings with your mace.

SMASSHHH!
SQUELCH!!

Each hit pulverizes the small goblins. This was easier than you thought! While the rest of the adventurers were expending their stamina or mana, you could move around in your heavy equipment as if you were naked.

Suddenly, several firebolts plunged into the line of adventurers, maiming or outright killing a few. Behind the swarm of green were several goblins dressed in dark robes. They could only be goblin mages.

However, that wasn't the only threat that appeared. A loud roar heralded the charge of several hobgoblins, each as tall as a human but twice as thick. They wore no armor but held huge battleaxes that they used to great effect. The lesser adventurers were carved down easily.

The situation was turning bad. If you engaged the hobgoblins, the goblin mages would support them with their spells. And the mages themselves were surrounded by too many goblins to take out easily.

What do you do?
