Chapter 7 by Groffin Groffin

Where do you go from here? Do you even leave at all?

Make for the enchanted forest level.

On second thought, you're kinda sick of this place, and heading for the ocean proper or a PC hub town is still likely to end with you way over your head still, so the enchanted forest it is.

You encase the Vessel in a glob of water and suspend it in your hair, then ride the current away with a final look back. You never did find and destroy the Lightning Magic department.

Perhaps another day.

The river swiftly carries you out of the quarry. You lounge on the surface and watch the scenery roll steadily by, until you come see a wide pasture. The Mage you eavesdropped on said that the forest bordered the closest stretch of farmland, so this must be your stop.

You step out of the water and trek through the field, not seeing any livestock or tenders in the surrounding area. You keep moving past crops and barns, all the farmers too deep in their lands and routines to notice you on the path, until finally you stand before a thick wall of trees. The sign posted next to where the road ends says "Denres Woods". This is must be the place.

You step into the shadow of the foliage and have your guess confirmed for you by the background exposition that takes an info dump in the back of your mind. Denres Woods is an enchanted forest alright, chock full of mid-level nature spirits like yourself to boot.

The quests offered by the NPCs here mostly center around breaking the natural wards and driving off the magic creatures within so that the farmers can clear the trees for more arable land; they never actually do though, and the forest's defenses all reset the next day, so the adventurers can always come back and "reconquer" the magic woods for all the gold and XP they want from it.

If your luck holds up, this could be the place to bump yourself up another rung on the power ladder. You go deeper into the woods, not sure what exactly to be on the lookout for until you hear the gurgle of water.

You make a beeline for the course an find a good-sized spring fed by a little stream. It actually seems unclaimed.

With confident strides you walk to stand at the very center of the watering hole, then with deliberate motions, lift and lightly put down your foot.

A single ripple pulses out evenly from your step, shining and singing with magic as it spreads over the the whole surface of the spring, putting it under your control. Pleased with how smoothly you set up shop in your new territory, settle below the surface and wait for your next growth opportunity.

Do you have any excitement that first day in your new home.
