Aim at two and miss

You arrange to sit between Luna and Fairouzeh, the girls you think might be most likely to be interested in you. Tara demands that you go back out and get popcorn. Kath loudly seconds Tara's demand, and you head back out the the lobby to get three big buckets of popcorn for the girls to share. You can't help but imagine the taste of salty, greasy, buttery popcorn on their lips. Anticipation, anticipation...

When you leave the line, wondering if you can make it back to your seat with the popcorn in one trip, you see Mona entering the lobby.

"Hey Joe, is Fairouzeh there? She texted me to say she was on the way to the theater," Mona says.

"Yeah, I'm just getting popcorn for everyone, they're starting the previews," you say.

"Great!" Mona says. "Let me help." She takes one of the big buckets, leaving you with a better-balanced load of two.

You return to the half-lit theater full of young sportswomen, their family, friends, and enthusiasts, Mona in the lead.

Mona takes the seat between Luna and Fairouzeh and starts chatting away with the Persian beauty as Luna dreamily watches the previews. There isn't an empty seat left next to the girls, nor even one in the same row, nor is there a seat open in the row behind or ahead of them. Well, you suppose the benefit showing is going to be a success for women's sports if the full theater is anything to go by.

You sit down on the steps next to Fairouzeh, but an usher in a brightly colored uniform and cap taps you on the shoulder. "I'm sorry sir, the fire code," she says. "The main floor is full, but there are seats left in the balcony."

You wonder if you should stick as close as you can, in case you get a chance to get close to the girls, maybe if Mona and Fairouzeh take off together, or just wander and see if Lady Luck is on your side.
