The women at the outside table

You get a basket of fish tacos and a Coke from the kitchen window and take your food out to the empty table next to the young women drinking and chatting.

You can tell that four of them are more obviously sun-kissed and athletic than their friend. Bored with waiting, one of the four picks up a volleyball and calls the others over to one of the sand volleyball courts. The first girl calls over to the others. She seems more pumped up and into the trash talk than the others, who just answer back to get it over with and get playing. They're kind of a mix of body types -- on one side, a tall one with the classic net player's build along with the big talker, a slim, quick one with toned muscles like Karen Yoshida's, and on the other side, one with a solid, muscular core and strong, soccer-player legs teamed up with a kind of soft-looking girl with a dreamy, casual look, who nonetheless seemed to have radar for the ball and never missed one hit near her.

Their friend at the table sips her drink and watches the game while waiting for the food.

You size them up, trying to learn their names and get a feel for their personalities, trying to figure out a way in. Who to talk to, and how?
