Chapter 42 by simmaster simmaster

Now what?

More killing, of course.

Was this hard-earned victory supposed to make you think twice about rushing into danger? It only encourages you even more. You can overcome any foe within this lousy village. And you will. You think of all the XP you'll gain, probably at least one or two more levels, and that thought motivates you to leave the outskirts of the village and rush back towards the action.

You find that the orcs have broken through the defenses and are fighting NPCs and heroes alike inside the village. You eagerly dive right into the battle, tearing apart both humans and orcs. Your main targets are the heroes. The NPCs make for nice bonus XP, but they can wait until you're done with the heroes. They're the biggest threat and the biggest reward. It would be a huge shame if an orc invader got to them before you.

Most of the heroes are at medium health. This is clearly a somewhat difficult event for heroes of their level. All the better for you. They do notice you returning to the area, and some decide to target you instead of the orcs while others choose to ignore you for now. You swing your claws at the ones approaching you, striking them down with relative ease with some help from the orcs that for the most part ignore you, but serve to deliver a few hits to the less attentive heroes. Your powerful blows soon kill several of them with relative ease, and you feel delicious XP seep into you as you move forth to attack whichever hero is closest.

Eventually, the village's hero population has reached zero. You let out a triumphant howl towards the sky. You feel so strong. So powerful. Before, you were cowering in fear of heroes. Now you just killed somewhere between five or ten in total, in this village alone. Of course, they were somewhat below your level and fighting a bunch of orcs, but the XP within you doesn't care.

You move on to the NPCs. Due to the heroes not being able to defend the village, most of the humans are already dead. You make short work of the remaining ones, and once the last one is dead, the orcs retreat. Their work is done, until the next invasion in their infinite cycle. You are so glad you're no longer stuck in one of those loops.

Maybe you're not quite done, though... The orcs may be monsters, but they're still worth XP. You could try to kill as many as possible before they've all ran off. Or... Some of the females look quite appealing... Maybe you can satisfy some urges other than your XP-thirst...

What's your decision?
