Chapter 20
by ThumbLord1
What Improvements Does Today Bring? Enough Improvement To Prompt Expansion?
More Than A Few Improvements Are Made Promting Me To Make My First Agressive Moves.
Before my next appointment at My Arena I needed to go Hunting. In my Draconic Form I Flew into my Miniature Grand Canyon. I'd decided to have a very carnivorous diet of jucy Steak, Rare, with a side of Wild Pork, also Bloody Rare. When I had my fill I brought down one additional Ankole and brought the giant cow-like creature back for my Harem to enjoy at their leisure. Then I made my way to my Arena. I sent the word out that I was on my way. 20 Thousand Army Ant Soldiers awaited me, nearly surrounding the entirety of the Grand Fighting Pit. A cursory scan with my God's Eye told me that the average stats of each individual Army Ant Soldier was improving. Between my ongoing Wargames and the training they were now receiving from the members of the Royal Legion, they had improved their overall might. I was eager to test their strengths and absorb their weakness as EXP.
Like last time, I gave these 20 Cohorts a speech and asked their 2 Commanders if they were prepared to die for the betterment of all. With loud Fists to their Stone Chestplates they wordlessly declared that they would gladly die if it helped their King and Queens in any manner. Then the Commanders waved forwards a **** of 200 Soldiers to face me.
Unlike previous engagements the Army Ants were now solid in their squad tactics. Each squad consisted of 10 Soldiers and their was a diverse selection of different types of squads. And the use of Spears was now heavily in use. Until now I hadn't seen the Army Ants use any spears. Javelins yes. But, past being thrown and penetrating their targets Javelins made of stone didn't need to survive the rigors of battle. After that, it was actually a good thing that most Javelins cracked under the stress and broke apart. Enemies would have a hard time throwing back broken pieces of stone. But spears required alot more longevity to be useful and stone didn't seem to work well in that regards. Or so I had thought. Somehow things had changed.
Seeing the many formations of Long Spear and Shield users reminded me alot of Greek Phalanx's. Only, the 4 arms of my Ant Soldiers made the whole setup far more deadly. The Sheilds were all oversized Tower Sheilds carried aloft by two of their strong arms and were capable of blocking most projectile weapons. Their spears were 10 feet long and looked extremely heavy but they were held aloft by two strong arms and their muscles seemed equal to the task. I wondered. How did they manage to make them sturdy enough to not break the shafts of their spears? By changing my vision over to the Army Ant Hive I discovered that the long spear had become the predominant weapon among my Cohorts. Their reasons for this were simple ones. Their other weapons hadn't been effective enough and they had engineered a new way to Craft long sturdy spear shafts. I watched as newly raised Army Ants filed into my Aphid Super Garden and retrieved long slim reeds similar to bamboo but far more slender.
Under the care of my 5 Dryads my Super Garden had become a veritable jungle. The Moisture and heat from my Bathhouse had done wonders to alter the environment to be more suitable to plants my Aphids preferred. Every plant I could think of and many more that I never even imagined thrived in that environment. Within my Mana Rich Dungeon they grew quickly and reproduced in plentiful numbers. This included the tall reeds that my Soldiers were turning into weapons. Like bamboo they grew in vast quantities. And they grew faster and more plentiful than the Ants could possibly harvest.
The Army Ants cut the reeds down and brought them back to the Hive. From there the hardened reeds were turned into the base construct of the Army Ant's new primary weapon. The empty Core of the bamboo-like reed was filled in with solid stone by their Stone Manipulation ability. Then they coated the outside of the long reed with stone, thick enough to make the pole into a weighty spear shaft. The spearhead was simple stone narrowed to an impressive point. I watched some young soldiers practicing spear drills. It was a regular occurrence for the spreartip to chip and occasionally crack or shatter. But my soldiers had found a solution for this current issue. They simply used their Stone Manipulation ability to reshape the broken bits of weapon mid practice. They didn't even pause in their mock fighting. The Training Soldiers just repaired their equipment mid battle. That was impressive. And innovative too.
So thats how they were crafting quality spears. It only took a bit of creativity for them to accomplish it using their inherent magical gifts. But I still didn't see why the spears had become so popular. I switched my Dungeon Sight over to the tunnels where the Wargames were still being fought. The situation there was playing out totally different from the display I witnessed yesterday. Instead of bull rushing the Arachne the Army Ants had drastically changed tactics. They were sweeping the passageways quickly but in a controlled fashion. Squads of Ants in a Shield Wall marched forwards spears leveled. Their Tower Sheilds soaked up the majority of damage that the Arachne threw at them. There were still many casualties from traps and throwing needles but nowhere near as many deaths as before. My Army had adapted to their opponents. My Arachne were barely taking any losses to this new strategy. However, they were finding it even more impossible to defeat the slow tide of Army Ants. Any Arachne that got too close to the advance of the Shield Wall ended up with deep punctures from the Long Spears. Even equipped with whips that could score large gashes through stone, the Tower Sheilds of their opponents proved to be a daunting challenge for my Ninja Spider Army.
The reason why my centaur-like Ant Soldiers had started crafting the spears came to my attention when I examined a squad of Ant Soldiers who left the Hive to go Hunting.
I had separated a herd of my Ankol and a family of my WereBoar, placing them in a seperate cavern full of tall grass for grazing. Then I had given permission for my children to hunt them to supplement their food supply.
Due to the High Mana Density of My Dungeon I got the distinct feeling the respawn time of my Dungeon Creatures was much shorter than any other Dungeon. Most of My Creatures had a respawn time of 1 hour. I refused to believe that was normal for a Dungeon. My Dungeon Spawned Bosses and Elites would probably take longer but I wouldn't know until I aquired one.
The Reason my Army Ants had needed to craft spears was now obvious to me. Their other weapons had no real impact when fighting against the formidable Ankole and the Large Boars. The Large Bovine had thick hides and were deadly at close range. And the WereBoars were savage and required a good spear to stop their furious charge. I could imagine the heavy losses the Hunters took before they changed their primary weapons. On Earth The Spear was a weapon used all through Human History because of it's effectiveness. It was believed that humans began using them hundreds of thousands of years ago. And only in the last couple thousand years had they lost their potency. Only the advent of Firearms had made them obsolete. I am not surprised that my Soldier Caste discovered the usefulness of Spears and adopted them for mass implementation. The new weapon had spread like wildfire throughout my most Militant Hive. The other weapons they had developed were still in use, but the vast majority of Soldiers only used them as backup weapons in case their Spears were ineffective against their foes.
Once again I was impressed by the rapid adaptability of my First Hive. Let's see how they fare against me in combat.
I only sustained 1 injury in the next hour of constant battle. It was rather unfair of me to wear my new Emanation Armor. My natural Armor was tough enough but stacked with my Angelic Metal Suit I was all but invulnerable to the Mundane Attacks of my Army Ants. That was why after I obliterated my 5th grouping of 200 Soldiers I decided to call in the members of my Harem who could fight. A slightly pregnant Abria, QuickSilver and Chloe joined me in the Arena shortly thereafter.
At least now my Army Ants had a much better chance of wounding someone to become a Royal Legionary. On top of that my Warrior Women could use the training. And both sides managed to do just that.
Today, Abria was improving her skills at a more rapid rate. Now that her Die For The City bonus had reached a staggering 368% increase to All Stats, her Fighting Prowess had sharpened dramatically. It was staggering considering that only two days ago her Stats weren't multiplied by a factor of 3.68. Simply put. Abria fighting better ment that she could kill quicker thus feeding her bonus faster and faster with each percentage point gained. She was now facing off against twice the opponents she could previously handle and was demolishing them in short order. Abria was taking occasional wounds, adding to the number of Soldier Ants who would survive today's training but my Duergar Consort learned her lesson with each new injury. She rarely repeated her mistakes.
I could tell that my Duergar Woman hadn't had enough time to clean herself up properly after our last tryst. The smell of our coupling lingered on her and every once and a while I got a glimpse of the ruined crotch of her pants. Abria's boyshorts were still quite damp with my Cum. She caught me looking often enough and I could just imagine how hard she was blushing beneath her heavy helmet.
Chloe was a majestic site to behold in her Wolf Form. Chloe's Animal form could no longer be considered just a Wolf. She was even larger than Rob Stark's DireWolf just priar to it's ****.
SIGH... Rob Stark from Game of Thrones. All he had to do was marry the Asshole Lord's daughter. KINGS DO NOT MARRY FOR LOVE. ESPECIALLY when they are in a WAR FOR THEIR VERY SURVIVAL. And they Must Absolutely Never Break their Word. Foolish Boy. I had higher hopes for him than that. Guess he learned that lesson the hard way.
Due to the special conditions placed on her Primal Hunter Class and her Lone Alpha Female Monster Power My WereWolf wasn't nearly as good a fighter in a group as she was alone. But she was more than capable of taking care of herself in a fight. And her Pack Compensation Power still worked in group combat as long as the prey is her Wolf size or larger.
Chloe was huge for a Wolf. Her light brown furry head rose to the full height of an average Human. Even so, my Army Ant Soldiers were still bigger. Their Ant Abdomen were large and combined with the rest of their bodymass they were bigger than Chloe by a good margin. That was a good thing. For every Ant kill made my WereWolf woman permanently increased all of her stats by 1. For now, it was unclear to me how her stats would alter her size. That was why I couldn't wait to see how big and powerful she would be by the end of the day. It would give me perspective on her ability to grow per Kill.
Of all my Warrior Women Chloe took the most damage by far. She wasn't used to fighting against squads of Troops in Formation. She was practiced at fighting monsters in the Wild. But she took to the challenge with overabundant enthusiasm and her natural Healing kept her in the fight in spite of her injuries. Her Wolf's reflexes were excellent. She raced around the battlefield dodging most of the javelins thrown at her. She avoided the more organized Ant Soldiers and honed in on Troops that had fallen out of Formation or become isolated. Sometimes she caused great havoc in the enemy ranks by crashing through Groups of Ants who were unaware of her presence. Her disruption of their tactics often allowed Chloe to pick off distracted Warriors.
She glanced at me often, looking for my approval. And I gave it to her. Between bouts I praised her efforts by petting her. Simple attention like rubbing her ears and scratching beneath her chin. It was all greatly appreciated by my new lover. Chloe had been alone for so long that she was starved for Companionship. Compliments of any kind ment the world to her. And Positive Physical Reinforcement from her New Mate was even more critical to her newfound stability.
QuickSilver was a deadly combatant. At first she made alot of minor blunders. I suspect she was acclimating herself to a fighting style that would work with her Hybrid Minotaur Angel body. QuickSilver didn't need any weapons aside from her own body. Her Angelic Steel body could produce weapons at will. She went through a multitude of weapons and Shield combinations as she worked to discover what she liked best. As she progressed, QuickSilver began to favor an unconventional style of fighting that allowed her to use her bladed wings and long Horns as much as possible. Forsaking conventional weapons she formed an Aspis Shield on both her arms. Mistakenly known as a Hoplon, the Aspis was the Shield used by the Spartans of Greece. Her Sheilds were very close approximations to those used by the Greeks. However hers were different in several ways. QuickSilver's round Sheilds were melded into her arms making them unable to be torn out of her grasp. The second difference was the edges of her Sheild. They were sharpened into blades that could cut into anything that she bashed her Sheilds into. The double Sheild combo allowed her to block the vast majority of enemy attacks while using the sharp edges of the Aspis, her bladed wings and her horns to rip apart her foes.
My obedient Pet Angel still refused to wear real armor or clothing. Instead she wore a thin loincloth made of Emanation Steel that somehow had a consistency similar to, but heavier than silk. Later I would have to ask if she could begin producing Lingerie with that metallic fabric. Her silvery loincloth was long but almost completely see through. It hid absolutely nothing when in the heat of combat. To cover her perpetually hard nipples she wore a skimpy Metalic Silk Corset. How she managed to make the material both diaphanous and rigid enough act like a Tight Corset was beyond me. And I have no clue where she got the ideas for such risqué attire.
I swear, she only wore the outfit to get a rise out of me. The way her nipples molded to the fabric was a brazen attempt to make me pay attention to how horny she was when I was nearby. I'm not ashamed to say it. It worked. QuickSilver was like Boudicca in that way. She loved to tease me on the battlefield. I'll bend her over and fuck her **** again soon enough. In fact, I should give my tease of an Angel an appetizer.
During a break between fights I pulled her into my arms and Kissed her hungrily. My Pet Archangel latched onto me like a vice as she Orgasamed and squeeled into my mouth as her cum dripped to the floor of the Arena. I gave her a hard spank and broke it off before too long, leaving her a molten puddle of desire. I enjoyed watching her excitement drip down her thighs for the rest of the day.
As I did the math, I began to lose hope that I'd manage to become a Sorcerer today. But unknown to me, the Math was about to change. With my Holy Smite Spell I had been Killing a single enemy per minute due to the long cast time. That was, until my Class Promotion. Then each of my Smite Spells became an Area Of Effect Spell. My patience finally paid off. I had used my Holy Magics enough that I finally got my First Promotion in my Priest Class.
I checked my Status after I realized that my Smite Spell had upgraded. I could feel that something was different in regards to my Priest Class. My Priest Class was now gone and this was in it's place.
Class: Tier III ArchPaladin of(Carnachias, Melanoche and Ariel)(A Combat Oriented Holy Magic Class- This Individual is Adept at Healing and Offensive Magic, as well as being a Front Line Fighter. Their Healing Abilities are Stronger and they can Cast a Group Healing Spell with an 8 Meter Radious. Smite is upgraded to an Area Of Effect Spell with a 4 Meter Radious. This Individual Gains the Moderate Offensive Turn Undead Spell. Light and Dark Magic Access. This Being receives a 300% increase to Magical Strength when Casting Spells While in Direct Melee Combat with an Opponent. 200% increase to Faith Magic Strength and Defence.)
Becouse of my Promotion I achieved my Goal of becoming a Sorcerer. It took until the second to last fight of the Day to accomplish. But it finally happened. I checked my Status again to confirm.
Class: Tier I Sorcerer(A Offensive Magic Class- Basic Fire, Water, Earth and Wind Spells. Other Low level Offensive Spells such as Elemental Bullets and Lances. Low Level Potion and Explosives Making. Additional Elemental Infusion Life Sorcerer Spells- Rampant Biology, Drain Life and Control Life.)
Excellent. I had gained access to alot more offensive magic. The potion and Bomb Making wouldn't do me much good at the moment but I gained alot of Spells that could be of great use. I discovered much in my last round of fighting. My Elemental Spells were low level but overpowered by regular standards due to my 2300% increase to Spell Power.
The first Fireball I cast could've cost me or one of my Women their lives if my aim was bad. My bonus turned what should have been Small Yellow Orange Fireball into a smaller condensed Ball of Deadly Blue Plasma. The Plasma was so Hot that I had to Heal Chloe from burns she received from getting too close to the explosion. The Squad of Ant Soldiers I aimed my spell at wasn't so lucky. The Soldier I hit directly caught on fire and melted. Then the Plasma Ball burst apart sending tiny globs of blue out in all directions. At least they didn't travel very far. Because every combatant near enough to any of the glowing blue Molten Material also caught fire. Even their Stone Equpment melted when close enough to the Plasma. EWW... That was terrifying. The entire fight had stalled due to the carnage of my "Boosted Fireball". Over a dozen Soldiers had died by that Spell and many others were burned by proximity. Even now the still burning balls were turning the Area around them into a molten pile as they turned stone gear into Lava. I was spared any real damage, but the Armor nearest my hand that cast the spell was overheated and smoking. At least it wasn't quite red Hot. I didn't fancy the idea of my fingers cooking from simply casting a songle Spell.
How hot was Plasma? Surface of Sun Hot. I was pretty sure.
OKAY. I better be more careful with my spells from now on. I hadn't realized my Boosts were augmenting my spells to such a degree. I had only really used Heal, Smite, Dark Bolt and Light Beam so my base for comparison was limited. Smite was certainly instant **** but I hadn't been overly impressed with Dark Bolt or Light Beam. Maybe those Spells were much weaker in their base forms than I had assumed. Dark Bolt was a high end Acid Spell for me but maybe it was closer to a Ball of Sticky Darkness with a minor acidic aspect for other casters. For me Light Beam was a short duration Laser Beam capable of cutting through anything with enough repeat castings. But without my buffs it was probably more akin to a flashlight. Good against Creatures of Darkness but not much else in terms of combat. Yeah... I had definitely underestimated how much my 2300% boost was doing for my Spells. I reckoned that even Smite was supposed to be far less powerful. Possibly capable of killing unarmored enemies but not much more powerful than a hammer blow.
When we started up combat again I tested out a few of my other Spells. I was careful to only choose Spells that I didn't think were overly dangerous to everyone around. For instance I didn't feel like now was the Time to test my Water Spray Spell. I didn't want to see if it would drown us all. So I'll test that one later.
Earth Spike was a very effective Spell. I suspect it was supposed to be a slim spearlike shard extending from the ground. Instead my Boost made the Spike a sharpened crag of stone large enough to impale a giant through the heart. The effect against my Ant Soldiers was more akin to putting my enemy's Heads on spikes. Only, it was their entire bodies that was speared through and they were rather high up in the air. A rather macabre scene to be sure. Reminded me of the Tales of Vlad The Impaler.
My Wind Blast was another effective spell. After I made sure that no non-combatants were in the potental Blast Zone, I cast the spell. For me the Wind Blast was more akin to a Max level **** Blast Spell. It was well beyond Hurricane like Winds. The Wind picked up and threw the lone Ant Soldier so fast that they hit the far wall of the Huge Cavern and splattered like a bug on a Car Window. EWW... I'd have to do some renovations to clean up today's mess. Glad I don't literally have to scrape the Walls Clean.
Combat with the last group of Army Ants came to an end before I could test out the rest of my Spells. So I did what any Self Respecting Ruler of Monsters would do. I Cheated. I called for my Army Ant Queens to send down 1 additional Cohort. Another Cohort arrived in short order.
Rampant Biology, Drain Life And Control Life were all Spells that required me to physically touch my targets. That was, until I realized that I could combine those Life Spells to my Elemental Bullet and Lance Spells. My upgraded Bullet was effective enough without combining it with other Spells. Using any Element that I had access to, it tore a bullet sized hole through anything I aimed at. I suspect that it was the Speed of the small magic projectile that was enhanced by my buffs. Only the indestructible far wall of my Cavern stopped the projectile from going any further. Same thing for the Lance. Only, the Lance Spell made much bigger holes in it's targets. For these Spells I chose to use my Life Magic Element because of it's potency. That was how I discovered that Some Spells could be combined with others.
I discovered that Rampant Biology was the Life Magic Effect that had Combined with Smite. I wasn't sure how I gained access to an effect before acquiring the actual spell. I chocked it up to being a quirk of THE SYSTEM. Rampant Biology could be cast on any person I was touching, but when combined with Elemental Bullet the effect was as destructive to Living Beings as my Smite Spell was. All that was left afterwards was Equipment and a pile of dust.
The Effects of Drain Life were similar to Rampant Biology, resulting in nothing but remains that were little more than dust and Lootable Gear. The difference was that I could feel the Life **** of the Soldier Drain away. Some of their vitality transfered over to me as if I was a Feasting Vampire. I could tell that the magic would heal me if I was wounded. It also increased my Stamina as far as it could. But it was what happened to the Excess that intrigued me the most. The Excess Energy converted into Extra Experience. It wasn't something I could see in any Status Sheet with my God's Eye. It was something I felt. I'd killed enough beings to know how it felt to gain a slain opponents potential as EXP. And I could feel the Extra Experience points given by my Drain Life Spell. Not alot. But well worth casting as often as I could.
By comparison Control Life was not as useful in combat as my other Life Spells. It gave me a moderate amount of control over my Opponent making me a Puppet Master over any afflicted enemies. But it wasn't as effective as simply killing them. Controlling their Bodies was mentally draining and made it difficult for me to focus on moving my own body. While a nifty Spell it wasn't very suitable for combat. At least not for my fighting style. I suspect that the spell might allow me to do more, but I would need to experiment in a controlled environment to see the results. I'll have to test those possibilities later.
This time there were 153 Surviving Ants that managed to score hits against my party. That was far more than last time but understandable given that 2 of my Women were new to this kind of fighting. I was honestly proud to induct all 153 Soldiers into the Royal Legion. Their knowledge and experience was worth its weight in Silver to the rest of the Hive. Not Gold. Gold was too precious for that comparison.
The deaths of 21 Cohorts of 1 thousand Army Ants each expanded My Dungeon's Power greatly. I gained a full mile in radious and added alot more Dungeon Creatures to my roster. My current Dungeon looked like this.
Tier II Dungeon:
Radious: 2.9 Miles
Boss Monsters: None
Elite Monsters: Ambush Drake Pack Master, Ceryneian Hind
Creatures: Kobold-1746, Lizardmen-244, Thorny Dragon-41, Ambush Drake-18, StormLizard-8, WereBoar-358, Ankole-212, Cave Bear-30, Giant Elk-13, ManEater Goat-7
Ambush Drakes reminded me alot of lions although they were more dangerous by good margin. Ambush Drakes were a type of dragon that grew only slightly larger than human size, with stubby wings and a wolf-like head. They were about 6 feet in length, around 300 pounds in weight and were covered in either Dark Grey or Black Scales. These creatures had elongated jaws and muscular builds, their wings were quite stunted for their ssize. It looked like the wings were only used when necessary to make short leaps or slow a fall from a higher hight. As Flying was out of the question, Ambush Drakes preferred to get around on their four legs. Like Wolves, Ambush Drakes preferred to live in Large Packs. They used pack tactics to encircle and bring down larger prey. As I watched them, I saw their pack surround and ambush a group of Kobolds. The Ambush Drakes quickly proved how deadly they were. Then they began to feast on their meager meal.
One thing that most Dungeon Master Stories don't have is A Circle of Life within their Dungeon. Usually those stories surmise that Dungeon Spawned Creatures survive without food, only sustaining themselves off the Ambiant Mana of the Dungeon. This was not the case in this World. Once Spawned My Dungeon Creatures needed to eat. It was hard not to notice my beasts eating each other. My Carnivorous Beasts ate meat. So they hunted my other Creatures. My Herbivores ate whatever was available that those Species preferred. My Kobolds would eat damn near anything from bugs to grass if they were **** enough. In my Dungeon they were the literal bottom of the Food Chain.
My Ambush Drakes barely enjoyed their skinny Kobold meal then began searching for more prey. I looked forward to seeing them in more action. Especially because the Leader of their Pack was one of my first Elite Dungeon Creatures. The Brutal Scars covering the Black Scaled Beast made him seem particularly dangerous. The Pack Master had shown clear disdain for the Kobold's by not partaking in either the Slaughter or the Meal.
My next Creature was something I had never heard of, nor seen the like of before. StormLizards. They looked alot like a cross between a Rhinoceros and a wingless Dragon. They were incredibly bulky and their Draconic Rhino Horn occasionally sparked with Electrical Power. Electricity that they could Arc between each other's Horns in a spectacular display of pain for anyone dumb enough to get too close. The Blue Scaled Beasts traveled in pairs of the same Gender but formed into 2 herds of 4 each. They were oddly respectful towards all other Draconic Species in my Dungeon. One herd even allowed some LizardMen to feed them. However my StormLizards showed no such regard for the non Draconic species. The Other Herd of 4 charged into a group of WereBoars and trampled several of them to ****. Then they chased off the other Boars with their sharp Horns blazing with Electricity. After that the Draconic Rhinos began to eat their kills. They were another great addition to my Dungeon.
The Giant Elk were exactly what they sounded like. They were Giant... Elk. Take an Elk from Earth and blow it up to the size of a Giraffe. Not including their ridiculously huge and sharp Antlers. That was a Giant Elk. The Giant Herbivores split into Two herds within my Dungeon. They had separated by Gender. If I remember correctly Elk on Earth did the same thing. And their herds were called.... Gangs. I think. So the correct terminology on Earth would be a Gang of Elk. I had 2 Gangs of Elk. All I really cared about was that Venison was now on the Menu. It was nice to have more Food Options. Maybe I should aquire a Professional Cook for my Next Harem Member.
The Maneater Goats were not so easy to comprehend. Imagine a White Furred Mountain Goat of the largest size found on Earth and give it the large Horns of a male Ibex, then give it a slightly wider mouth filled with sharpened canine teeth. That was a Maneater Goat. And they were just as crazy as the name sounded.
One of my first observations of them involved the Herd of 7 Goats as they Climbed down a sheer rock face in my Miniature Grand Canyon. I say Climbed, but it was more akin to running down the sheer cliff. They charged right down the Rock Face and attacked a Thorny Dragon that was taken completely off guard. The huge Thorned Lizard had thought it's flank was protected by the steep cliff. But it was already too late to regret that mistake. One after the other the Maneater Goats slammed their hefty bodies into the Large Lizard via their Horns. Little by little they pushed the Thorny Dragon towards the next cliff downwards. One impact wasn't enough to do anything but make the Lizard Angry. But 7 impacts close together. The Huge Creature was too off balance to put up much of a fight. And after the 7th Goat Horn impact it was flipped over onto it's side next to the Drop Off. But unfortunately for him the Maneater Goats weren't done. The first few Goats that'd hit the Lizard had gotten some distance and charged again. The Next Goat Strike Knocked the Thorny Lizard off the tall cliff to impact the ground far below. Then the Maneater Goats casually jogged down that Cliff Face and the Next Cliff below it to begin feasting on their kill. Now... I had figured that the Thorny Lizard would put up a better fight than that. It was practically a Porcupine with all those sharp thorns. But the long curved Horns had kept the Goats safe when they'd attacked in such a controlled manor. They probably even avoided the worst of the Thorns and charged areas where they were less likely to be hurt. I had heard that Mountain Goats were smart, but this was just.... Odd to See. It was jarring. But again. I couldn't complain. At least they were on my side.
The Ceryneian Hind was my Absolute Favorite of the newest Additions to My Dungeon for one simple Reason. It was an enormous female deer, larger than a bull, with hooves made of bronze and most importantly, it had a massive set of Stag Antlers made of solid Gold. GOLDEN ANTLERS. I instantly planned to set up a Hunting Party to harvest it's Antlers whenever it respawned. Maybe Chloe would volunteer to hunt it for me. It was unfortunate that there was only 1 in My Dungeon and that it took up one of my 2 Elite Slots. But, in exchange for a consistent harvest of Golden Antlers I could accept that one of my Elites wouldn't be fighting any Dungeon Delvers. I separated my Ceryneian Hind into a seperate chamber where my hunters could bring her down without her being able to run away. In the short time I had been gawking at the magnificent Horned Beast I had seen just how fast it could move. The dapple pelted Giant Dear was excessively swift of foot. It was quite Dexterous and likely had the Stamina to run for an entire day if necessary to outrun pursuers. I constructed it's chamber to be too small for that, with a Barred Emanation Steel Door too small for it's frame as the only way in or out. This probably wasn't how a Dungeon Master was supposed to utilize it's Elite Creatures. But Hey. As long as THE SYSTEM didn't complain then who was I to argue with the Mechanics of this World. Hunting the Beast still wouldn't be easy by any standards. I'd have to make sure the hunters could survive the Ceryneian Hind's ability snort fire. I realized this when I saw the Trapped Beast Snort in Anger catching some of the surrounding grass on fire. I altered the room to be less prone to fire.
The fast expansion of my Dungeon's Area of Influence was THE THING that set My Dungeon apart from any other. I bet that it took years to accomplish the Growth that mine achieved in only one day. How large would I be able to make my Dungeon? Was their even a max size or was it only limited by how many Souls a Dungeon could kill? I guess I would find that out. All in due time.
The Expansion of my Dungeon Domain allowed me to see much more of my surroundings than I previously could. I had speculated that my Dungeon's Influence might be stopped by the Duergar. That my boundaries would encompass them but be unable to penetrate their City's Defences. However to my delight, that wasn't the case. My Dungeon grew into their territory by over a mile. This allowed me to see more of their City then they would ever tolerate anyone to see. They would shit their pants if they knew I now had near total control over every bit of their city that I could see. My control was only limited by proximity to any Duergar. I couldn't manipulate anything with a certain range of any person not affiliated with my Dungeon. I think the range was about 20 feet. That still gave me alot of control. Control that the Grey Dwarves had no idea about. At least, they didn't Yet have any Idea. I tried something new. I tried to will my Subconsciousness to give the Duergar permission to mine and or alter their territory as though my Dungeon was not indestructible, at least in a limited manor. I hoped that it would work. All it would take was a construction crew trying to knock down an indestructible wall, to realize that my Dungeon had silently invaded their Home. And what a home it was. I could only see a portion of their city but what I did see impressed me. Their stone carved city was based around a large Dormant Volcanic Fissure. Heat rose from far below, but it was the heat of Volcanic Foundries, not the imminent doom from a potential Volcanic Eruption. I couldn't yet see that far down the Fissure myself, but that was the distinct feeling I got from the many Thousands of Duergar that worked in the City. My guess about the WeaponSmith's Forge had been on the mark. The portion of the City within my Domain looked to primarily be the Merchant's Quarter. There was indeed a Leather Workshop next door to the WeaponSmith. Both buildings were abandoned and looked to be under quarantine. Both were ringed by a barricade of movable stone blocks manned by several hundred Duergar Guardsmen. And I counted many more Soldiers within easy distance should they be needed. There were perhaps 700 of the City's Troops within the Merchants Quarter. But I was sure their were more outside of my sight. Indeed so there was. Further Examination showed me that there was an encampment of Duergar Soldiers about a half mile down the tunnel from my Gateway Room. My Domain now included two Fortified Gateways that led out of the Dwarf City. One of which connected to my Gateway Room via a series of tunnels that had branching paths that were not within my boundaries. In a cave between my Closed Dungeon Door and their city sat an Army Camp with roughly 1000 Troops.
The winding tunnels ment that they had probably been on the march since around the time we had clashed. Something like... 2 days ago. The Duergar must not have been interested in sending Scouts. Instead they had taken decisive action and Sent an Army to end the Army Ant Hive. Maybe they didn't realize that they were facing a Dungeon? Or perhaps they did know, but didn't think my gates would be closed? Either way they would see my closed Gates by tomorrow. They were only now just finishing up setting camp for the Night. They didn't realize how close they were to my Dungeon Entrance. Maybe I could use that somehow?
I had one night to work on a plan. Whatever that plan might be. I could do nothing. But doing nothing gets me nothing in return. I could let them face my Fake Dungeon. But that had it's own risks. I don't think the combined strength of all my Dungeon Creatures would meaningfully affect a professional **** of 1 thousand Duergar. What if I involved my Children. I'd give good odds that the numerically superior Armies of my Children could stand a fighting chance at winning. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing. But the losses to my Forces would be ****, even if I won. Unless... Unless I cheated and didn't make it a fair fight. OK... But for my idea to work I needed more space. I had maxed out most of the surrounding area with my seperate Dungeons. Dungeons that I no longer felt entirely comfortable moving now that they were so big and Complex. But there was more than enough Space nearby. Space that could easily become mine if I evicted some Squatters from my Domain.
Isn't It A Bad Idea To Attack One Enemy When You're Already At War With Another? Didn't I Say That Very Same Thing Before?
