Just An Egg

You had no idea how long you'd been... this. An egg. No moving. No interacting with anything. It was so boring.

The worst part was that you didn't even know what kind of creature you were an egg of. You don't remember being birthed like natural eggs. For all you knew, you were simply coded into the game. Which would've been fine... except your earliest memories were the same as your present ones. Darkness.

Ever since you could, well, "sense" the outside world, it'd always been dark. You couldn't tell if it was because you were within the walls of an egg or because you were literally trapped in a dark... something. Cave? Room? Underwater temple? You couldn't tell. Hell, you couldn't even tell if you were really sensing anything. Whatever you considered to be your mind could've been going insane and you wouldn't even know.

You passed the time by imagining how life would be if you ever got out of this. You wondered what you would become, though it wasn't easy when you had no idea what could and couldn't be born from an egg. Hell, even your stat sheet (if you could call it that) didn't reveal anything helpful. It may as well have been one giant question mark.

It also appeared that you didn't need sleep; or maybe you never realized the difference between awake and asleep. Everything blurred together. You were pretty sure that if anything came from the outside world and had been put into this situation, they'd have gone completely insane. But this was all you'd ever known.

Until you heard something crumble.
