Chapter 10 by CrusaderofTruth CrusaderofTruth

Which Talent do you take?

Intelligence, of course.

It's clear that intelligence has been your one true saving grace, and you decide to continue to sharpen your mind.

After picking the option, you shudder as brand new information begins to surge through your mind, everything becoming sharper and clearer. New ideas for contraptions and creations spring forth, as well as knowledge on... extracting ore from rock? You haven't the slightest clue on why you might need to do that. You push that information down, out of the way, and focus on what you do need to focus on: Survival.

It crosses your mind that that bigger hero will be back soon, no doubt with someone who can reach you. Or shoot you. Or even...

With a shudder, a horrible thought crosses your mind, one even worse than ****. If knowledge of your unique skills reach the wrong ears, you might be hunted down by a ranger, or a beastmaster, and the very thought of being slaved to one of these heroes chills your very haemolymph. Staying here is no longer an option. New materials are required, and you need to grow stronger.

The idea of actually going on the hunt for prey is thrilling, but it is not your way. Even low level heroes could kill you easily, with your pathetic melee abilities. No, something more cunning is in order.

But that aside, you begin to move. A change of scenery is in order, and surprisingly... you no longer feel as attached to your old tunnel as you did an hour ago. Is this... wanderlust? A sense of self-preservation, you had long since thought gone? Or did that new talent awaken something new? Whatever the answer, you exit the cave, and leave behind your brethren, to be killed and culled, again and again. Maybe someday, you will release them from their curse. But until then...

The entrance to your caverns is not too far, and you see the light of day, for the first time. It is blinding, although not as much as you might have expected. Perhaps this is because the sun is dipping below the horizon? Hang on, how do you know these terms? Is that even the sun?

For a brief moment, you have an attack of agoraphobia, and everything is scary. This is quickly shaken by the sight of moving figures off in the distance, and the terror of heroes gets the better of you, and you quickly hide in a ditch, jumping to old instincts. Cursing yourself for diving into such an indefensible position, you grab a rock, and prepare to chuck it at someone.

Some furred animal hops past you, blissfully unaware of your existence. It is tall, and it has some sort of horns protruding from its head. A... deer, maybe? You are unsure. Dropping the rock, you resolve to quickly find new territory to settle in, hopefully away from here.

Off in the distance, you see several features, since the entrance to the cavern is luckily set into the side of a cliff. Nearby, a small village sits, and you can only guess it is some tutorial zone for heroes. There are forests aplenty, stretching almost in every direction, and setting off in one of those forests is appealing, especially the dense looking one in the north. Behind you, the mountain climbs higher still, and you can see there are several craggy passes towards the top. There might be even more caves past those.

In which direction do you head?
