Chapter 22

Sleep, or hunt?

Hunt

Emerging from your hiding spot you begin to stalk the trio, eyes keeping careful track of their movements and path. The cavern they've chosen is narrow and has multiple exits into neighboring catacombs, but the orc has a torch. The two...tigrans, was it? Are too far into the light to surprise in a reasonable way without revealing yourself to them. So you resolve to stay out of the light and wait for an opportunity to present itself.

It is an excruciating process, one that tests the limits of your admittedly miniscule amount of patience. After being asleep and without real purpose for so long, and with your body, waiting and hiding feel so...out of place on you. You want to give in to the primal urge you have to take what you want but there is a logical mind still running your show. You begin to suspect that those impulses on seeing players are vestiges of...what? Code? Programming? Instinct?

The line separating you from your less autonomous brethern seems to be as wide as your ability to reason and think. That thought gives you some drive to keep from slipping into habits and as there isn't much point to stealth right now, considering you're invisible, you amuse yourself by eavesdropping.

"Ani? Do you have any healing potions left to spare? I don't wanna get caught empty." The Orc calls now back to the robed of the two tigrans, provoking a distraught sigh and a grumble as she hands over a set of potions. "Yeah Jurh, here. Ina, can you spare any? If he's running in front he'll need them. " She speaks to the one next to her, immediately having the rogue Ina pass off a pair of potions to the orc. "Thanks you two. " Jurh grunts back at them.

The trio continue silently, unaware you're following behind and finally Ani breaks the silence as they enter a side passage. "So Ina, what did you say to that Mercenary when we left the checkpoint? He looked like you'd just hit him with a brick. " She asked. She had a melodic, sultry voice you were starting to enjoy whereas Ina had s softer and much duller voice. Not without it's charms, but far less interesting.

"He said he hadn't seen a Tigran naked before and I told him the only pussy he was going to see was his cat. I don't do shit like that." Came the retort, as Ani chuckled and stretched back a bit. "I dunno. If he had money should have sent him my way. There's this cute clothing set I really wanna buy..."

Jurh groaned a little as he turned his head to Ani, shaking it. "I wish you wouldn't do that. I just gave you items to sell yesterday. " He grumbled back at Ani who looked sheepish, her ears fluttering down a bit.

"Well... they're new, and expensive...and you know it's not like with you."

Ina gave her...sister? A look of disgust and Ani seemed to smirk as she rolled her eyes, Jurh not noticing as he led the way. The path continued on for a few more minutes, before Jurh stopped and quickly threw down some sort of symbol on a wooden plank. A magic field began to rise around them, Ani and Ina stepping on it.

"Right. I'm going to go get their attention and we'll fight them here on the healing rune. You two just get ready." Jurh explained, stepping forward into the darkness with his torch. Here it was. Your chance. You didn't even have to deal with the escort.

You waited until the orc disappeared into the darkness to step forward, listening as Ina groaned aloud. "How long are you going to keep him on this string Ani? He's just about had it with the whoring and I'm getting tired of his ugly face...Orcs, ugh. Don't you have standards?"

"I'm sorry my standards aren't like yours. When was the last time you actually touched a dick again, remind me? Or did anything besides beg to lick some butch-" Ani started, only for her sister to glare furiously at her. Ani at least pretended to look apologetic now, but continued. "Jurh is getting us stronger and he buys me nice things. Plus, have you seen an orcs dick? Eight inches of heaven. "

It was about this time Ina rolled her eyes and turned, right into you. She stared as you loomed over her, her five foot something making you feel even taller and she gawked a little too long. Before she could warn Ani you reached out, grabbing her by the throat and she let out a strangled gasp. Ano turned and in the same moment you snatched her up as well, holding tight. Both women panicked and fought, but in the end both went limp and silent before you hauled them under your lower set of arms.

That hadn't really been fun...you were expecting a fight. Stepping away now, you hardly paid a thought to the left behind orc. You'd spotted a nice tunnel that led into a fissure earlier, and you'd find something to do until the pair woke up. You were already gone by the time Jurh returned.

He sprinted into the symbol, torch in hand and panting for breath. "Ani, Ina. We're in luck. The miniboss spawned, and...Where are you two?!" He started, then shouted. Behind him a small pack of lizard-like creatures with spined tails came whipping around the corner, each the size of a large dog. Then a final figure bounded out of the darkness. The Cavguai, an eight foot tall lizard covered in spines and dripping acid. Jurh helplessly turned back to look up and winced as the pack crashed down on him like a wave of hateful, thrashing water.

Meanwhile, in the land of not dying, you had successfully found the cave you had seen before and pulled yourself into the fissure, climbing through several obstacles to get through. It wasn't perfectly secure, but no one would idly wander in. Setting the pair down in the middle of the narrow cave, you look around. There is a narrow opening you could stuff the two inside and a boulder to cover it, which would let you sleep as they waited...But they could surprise you and escape, or when you opened the rock to get them.

On the other hand there is a set of over hanging rocks with numerous bumps and ridges a good few feet above you. If you can find the right tools you could set it up so they are suspended from the ceiling, which would make it hard for them to escape or fight back but you'd need to stay awake and wait for them to regain consciousness...and search their packs for some rope, really.

Hole or Ceiling?
