Chapter 4

Get this train rolling?

Hell Yeah!

...you say excitedly, scaring Mrs. Brook a little bit. She slides over a piece of paper and a pen.

"Sign here, please," she says, pointing to a line on the page.

You quickly take a look at the page, but it just seems to be boring legal stuff, so you sign the page. She happily takes the page back and puts it in a filing cabinet behind her. She stands up from her chair, walks up to you and speaks.

"Please follow me to the reception, that's where you'll leave all of your stuff. After that, we'll go see where you'll be working..."

You follow her out of the door and back down the stairs to the reception. You notice she's a bit taller than you, befitting of a lady of such high rank in this establishment. When you reach the reception table, you hand the receptionist your keys, wallet, and phone, as well as an old gum packet you had in your back pocket.

After that, Mrs. Brook says "And now, down to the lab!"

She beckons you to follow her down a hall, at the end of which you see a shiny metal door, big enough to drive a car through. As she approaches the door, you watch in amazement as she pulls out a keycard from her cleavage. She holds the keycard up to a panel on the right side of the door and the panel lights up green. As it does, the giant, impressively thick metal doors slide open to reveal an elevator. She leads you inside and reaches over for a button panel holding 2 buttons, one having an upward and the other having a downward arrow. She presses the down arrow and the doors slowly close. When they do, the elevator catches you off guard as it suddenly flies down.

While on the elevator ride, Mrs. Brook speaks up again: "So, currently, we're going down to the laboratory section of the FPRC. The section you were just in is called the business section, where all trade deals are made, requests are accepted, and other management stuff is handled. Down in the lab is where we actually make the models, as well as train and test them."

When she stops talking, you notice how long this elevator ride is taking. Seems this lab is literally and figuratively very underground. After a bit, the elevator slows and comes to a stop. As the big doors open you are greeted by the sight of a bright atrium. Almost everything is pure white. The walls, ceiling, floor, chairs, and even coffee machine in the corner of the room are white. The men and women of science walk around in differently colored lab coats, each color respective of a work team. You and Mrs. Brook walk out of the elevator into the giant lab.

"That's the leader of the research team, Dr. Carson." She says, pointing at a man in a bright green lab coat standing a few feet away from you.

He has a chiseled face with a fair stubble, standing at about 6ft tall, chatting with a couple of other scientists in white lab coats with a bright green line across the surface of them. You quickly deduct that they are probably lower ranked than him in the lab.

Mrs. Brook continues "You will be spending almost all of your time with him and his team of researchers. He'll show you to your room and tell you everything you need to know. Good luck out there Jason, don't let us down!"

Before returning to the elevator, Mrs. Brook leans down to give you a kiss on the cheek for good luck. She walks back inside the elevator and you wave to each other as the giant metal doors close and she goes shooting back up.

You walk up to Dr. Carson, the man in the green lab coat, hoping he'll notice you. Luckily for you, he does and stops his conversation with the other scientists to speak to you.

"So, you're the new lab rat, eh?" he says, jokingly.

He continues: "Great to finally see you in person. I'm Doctor Alan Carson, but you can just call me Alan."

He sticks out his hand for a handshake.

You comply and say "Jason. So uh... how are things going down here?"

Alan replies: "Boy, let me tell ya, we were all super excited when we found out someone applied for the job you have now, so ALL the teams are working overtime, just to pump out more models for you to test. If things are still going how they were this past week, you'll be quite busy Jason. We weren't expecting you this early though, so nothing's really prepared yet. You're gonna have to wait until tomorrow to begin testing. Still, glad to have you on the team! In the meantime, wanna have a tour around the lab?"

Take the tour?
