Gathering Players

Jamie's first choice was Philly, the local hippie girl; that airhead was open to anything and hardly had any friends that didn't live in potted soil. That cowgirl Beverly lived right nextdoor too, a good second choice as Jamie had seen her talk to the nerds from time to time and was too nice to turn anyone down. The trip to the sticks wasn't too far from Augie's neighborhood and to her luck, flower power was right outside selling organic shit in a stand.

"Jamie?!", said the surprised girl, "It has been so long. I haven't seen you since Highschool when you told me about the yoga session in the courtyard. It was a little awkward being the only one there, I sure wish I had brought some of my yoga gear. A shame they stopped me bacuse all I had was my underwear. How have you been? What brings you out here?"

"Oh, I'm fine. I have to play a nerd game with some geeks because my mom is making me since I "forgot" to invite him to my birthday party."

"You had a birthday party?"

Jamie's mind drew a blank when she realized she didn't invite the weirdo, "....Uh...Yeah! Didn't you get the invitation?! Ha ha! It must have gotten lost somewhere. You do live out here in the outskirts..."

"Oh that's probably it, such a shame. So, what kind of game is it?"

"Some coffee table game or something. You roleplay as people from dragon and elf land and one of them is like god or something and tells you what happens with dice. They said not to worry about the complicated shit. I thought you'd might like it, something new."

"That does sound quite fun. I think I will join in."

"Cool, hop in my car and lets see if we can find—"

Just then a pleasant voice rung from down the road, "Howdy y'all!" It was Beverly; she'd been riding the tractor around the field and tilling them up for new crops, "Saw y'all from the tractor. Jamie?! Whatchu doin' 'round these parts girl! Haven't seen you since high school! How you been?"

Jamie tried to keep up the act that she could stand these people, Beverly's ever happy attitude got on her nerves and Philly was incessant wit her hippie agenda and inability to be anything but mellow. "I'm fine. I came out here to find you two and invite you to a game I'm playing with some nerds my mom is making me hang out with."

"Like who, August and Darren and Irwin?"

"Yeah."

"Oh, must be one of them tabletops they go on about. I kinda always wanted ta play, but I was just so darn busy all the time. Well, I'm just tilling for fun so if you just let me tell ma pa and brother I can join y'all."

"Tilling for fun" nearly sent her over the edge, but Jamie kept her cool and told Bev they'd wait right here for her. The cowgirl rushed back to the tractor in her boots and was back in no time. Jamie made the motion to her and Beverly took a rag from her back pocket and wiped the mud off her boots before hopping in.

After the thirty minute absence, the three girls arrived and joined the boys in the basement. Introductions were made and the instructions were set, Augie was once again surprised and thankful for how easily they accepted these odd stipulations. Philly chose to be an elven druid as it obviously mirrored her love of nature while Bev chose the role of a human fighter with a fighting sprit just like herself.

Now it was finally time to play the game and the dungeon master set the scene, "In the land of Oraan, in the city of Wren, our two expericed adventurers Irwig and Dar'Rin enter the local adventurer's guild in seek of new party members. They spy a lovely maiden dressed in tight leather armor and armed with a pair of daggers and a crossbow on her back. In the corner, taking a mighty swig of ale from a large flaggon, is a another fit maid dressed in metal and leather, sword and shield against the wall. Lastly, an innocent looking and starry eyed elf dressed in loose and revealing robes of a clear magical and natural design is looking over the quest board. In matter of minutes the three green recruits, Jae, Bevel, and Phee, are assembled into the party and the five stand in front of the board and begin to look for decent work..."

Note: This is based on some Sparrow artwork, like some other chapters in other stories, and should continue onward in that theme. Jamie and the girls are influenced by the mysterious, godly power to stay and return, but they don't really look forward to the events that transpired as the adventure goes forward.
