Chapter 9

What manner of miracle has blessed you with such an abundance of power? (For you anyway.)

By Those-That-Reign-Beyond!

On the far southern fringes of 'explored' Alluvia, where jungle holds sway and vermin are everywhere and more potent than most places in the world, you find a female Cleric, in her mid 30s, deeply dejected but scratching symbols in the dirt, idly, and repeating your name, over and over and over. She wears the tattered, torn, and bespattered robes of one of Anari's chosen, but as you examine her with your divine senses you realize that she is no longer a virgin.

AH, turned off the Adult Content Filters did you 'Miss Abigail Winchester'?

You mutter, but her head snaps up and she looks right at you where you stare out of the eyes of a swarm of gnats, and RESPONDS.

"Worse, I fell in love." Abagail half whispers, as if doubting you could really be there.

You can hear me? You ask in incredulity, and realize suddenly that you are not expending energy to do so, this is simple communication, which you have NEVER had before with anyone but the hideous monsters and your 'fellow' gods in the AEther.

She feels more confident with this second bit of contact and continues in a more normal tone. "Yes, you are my god now aren't you?"

I suppose I must be, but how can you talk to me? You ask, still confused by this turn of events.

"It's a specialization I selected at 75th level, 'Prophetess', it allows me to feel when my god's attention is on me and talk to them, as well as a few other minor perks." Abigail says, leaving you agog.

For almost any normal cleric 'Prophet/Prophetess' was one of the WORST specializations in the game. It's benefits really were 'minor perks' compared to almost any other. That is UNLESS you were the cleric of a god with hardly any church to speak of and only a tiny amount of divine power at their disposal. If that happened to be the case, it was bar none the very best specialization to have.

Firstly, it let you, as she had said, sense when your god had the focus of their attention on you, and when that happened talk to them with no energy expenditure on either part. You looked like you were schizophrenic and hearing voices when you used 'Voice of the Divine', but advice from your god was typically only a prayer away, since even the more powerful gods didn't have very many 75th level or higher clerics. Furthermore if your god chose to expend a bit of divine energy he could speak THROUGH you, and make others hear his voice directly.

The Second benefit however was what made it the very best ability to have for a cleric of an unknown and weak god: 'Spark of Divinity', your divine spells were drawn from the fire of your own soul and your mana pool, your god did not have to provide energy to empower them!

The third benefit was not as good but still kind of awesome for a lone cleric of a weak god: 'Command the Sphere', Whatever your god's sphere of influence you could control and direct it, bending it to your will with mana alone. Your deity could turn this power off and on at will, which Helia and some others did as a matter of course the instant someone selected this specialization, cant have mere mortals moving the sun, moon, or stars about in the sky all willy-nilly, but for YOU, Nimrev: God of Vermin... It was nothing short of miraculous.

~By Those-That-Reign-Beyond, this is better than I ever could have hoped!~ You think joyously.

Very Well, I accept you as my Cleric and Prophetess of my faith, but tell me, how did you come to be in the middle of this jungle dressed in rags and tatters? You query, curious for more insight into your new High Priestess's mind.

What's your new cleric's story?
