Chapter 4 by rabbitjack rabbitjack

How will you use your newfound abilities?

A patient ambush

You've leveled up, and gained a huge benefit from absorbing the PC's glitched mod. However, you realize that this doesn't translate into great power right at this moment. Sure, you're level three, but that Elite Boar was lvl 5 and an Elite creature on top of the level. You have the ability to get stronger in the future, but the present still requires a great deal of caution.

With that in mind, you spend the rest of the day sneaking through the wooded hills that mark this location. The other mobs ignore you, but the player that you killed earlier could come back looking for ****. He looks like the kind to hold a grudge. Eventually, you find a tree that you're able to scramble up and perch among the foliage, blending in with your gangly limbs and green skin.

You spend the next few days watching the Players from your high vantage point. There are times that you are tempted to leap down on an unaware party, your predatory instincts urging you to take advantage of a perceived weakness, but you fight them down. Most Players seem to prefer to move around in Parties, and even a starting level Party is more than you can handle right now.

An elven Ranger stalks through your field of vision for a while. Her hunting leathers cling to a remarkably beautiful body, taut and fit with curves that round out her silhouette very well. Her hood fails to fully conceal her silken blonde hair, and frames a face that someone spent a great deal of time getting just perfect. High cheekbones, full lips, and eyes of an unnatural vibrant blue leave you staring. She is by herself, but you fight down your instincts again. She looks like she knows what she's doing, and her equipment is several steps past the starting junk. Reluctantly, you let her pass unchallenged. 'Maybe later...' you promise yourself.

Of more immediate concern, you notice that a gnome Rogue has found a favorite grinding spot. He sets up a few traps on a path leading up to a stream, and waits nearby to ambush the creatures that come in for the water. Its clever, but the really interesting thing is that he has a schedule. Each day, he comes in at the same time and hangs around for about an hour before returning with whatever drops he's earned.

Will you take advantage of the gnome, or keep looking?
