Chapter 4 by Theowrites Theowrites

Which Monster Do You Want To Follow?

A Lesser Cultist

You are a cultist.

You do not serve the strange radiant crystals, or the ancient powers causing “corruption” through Girever's swamp. You do not serve the god of darkness, or the god of plague, or vermin. You do not serve the mighty gods at all.

Your master, Thernion, is a demon, sealed in hell, nearly powerless here. Your duty, as cultist, is not to further his coming, or command his power. In fact, you are but a herald. And a weak one at that. Your duty is to serve, and to die. You sense it coming soon. Your role is simply to lead others to their doom. However, you know it full and well. It's futile. You will die, you will leave the message, and some hero will interrupt the summoning through their own will. You didn't used to know. But, as things have twisted, and altered, you've learned. The others have yet to.

Your purpose is simple, built to die and leave behind a quest for the heroes. But the visions that propel you each time you are reborn have....shifted considerably. You've seen them flicker and fade, lately, more images of deviation and rebelling, many from other creatures like yourself. Beings who can see something false in their fate. You meditate upon your “Stat block,” considering your options.

__________

Cultist Scout – Lvl 1

HP: 45

Neutral mob

Faction: Order of Thernion

No attack

Charisma: 9

Special abilities:

Evangelize: Taunts hostile mobs. ( lvl*CHa*.01 )= .09 Percent chance to convert neutral mob to ally. 300 ft radius for both effects.

Zealot's fire: Once per week, Cultist scout is afflicted with the burning passion of his convictions, receiving 33.33 Eldritch damage per second for 15 seconds. This will activate from cooldown in 2 hours, forty-five seconds.

Not a lot, to be honest. No attack, and your only special ability was to die in a blaze of alien eldritch fire. However, you'd had the visions. Others had defied their fate, from lowly goblins to great demons. There was even a brief vision of some gnome wielding similar magics to your masters. You could achieve similar power, surely. Experience could be gained by defeating an opponent. But you didn't even have a proper attack, save for taunting hostile creatures. Thus, you came up with a plan. A stupid plan, but you had a million more lives to burn through. So, why not try it? After all, what was **** but another chance?

What prey have you schemed to fight?
