Chapter 22

How is the journey?

A Dungeon Crawl

Since you started your journey, your evolution, you'd not taken much time to contemplate how other monsters would react to you or how the world would make sense of you. It seemed, at least for now, you were an anomaly. A monster who could access the same resources as players and approach the world in the same ways, but what did that mean ultimately? You had started this with the idea of getting back at heroes and players, but the more you continued on the more it seemed you might have to get your hands dirty in the name of that. There simply weren't enough players to make hunting a viable option, not with two slaves at your side.

All of this took place on your journey down the long corridor you had picked. These tunnels were a maze even with a map and you had to stop several times to check that your directions were accurate. What kind of map didn't have an auto direction feature or an auto tracker or waypoints and why did this make you irrationally angry?

It had been the better part of an hour since you started this expedition, Baehdor in tow behind you as she struggles to keep watching without losing herself to urges...Tevoy, meanwhile, is now whimpering with every step behind you. You hadn't released her spell yet and it was taking a toll on her. She was sweating and panting in need, one hand perpetually buried between her thighs.

The reason for your musing had been the monsters you encountered as you floated along the tunnels. They immediately went after your...slaves? Victims? And you couldn't let them kill either of them. So you had defended them. Blasts of fire and lightning tore apart the lower level monsters in this area, and you realized sometime into it that Baehdor was quietly buffing you in the background. She really was just that submissive.

Your journey netted you a few nice bonuses however. A few levels for yourself and plenty of odds and ends for some purpose later; Weapons, armor, equipment, crafting and enhancement materials. Gold as well. You questioned where it all was going until you noticed Baehdor stuffing it into her pack in an almost dutiful way. More to the point, why did tunnel goblins have human sized pants? Why did rock worms have daggers? What the hell was a magic crysite and why did it happen to be in an old statue that you'd broken on accident?

Many questions buzzed in your head and you were only snapped out of it by your arrival at the end of a hallway, now staring into the room you'd picked for this purpose. It was a large chamber, about four stories tall and hundreds of square feet. It started as a flat room but began to rise with small ledges and vertical platforms, forming a sort of mesa. Three floors of rooms, each connected by stairs and ramps until the top floor which was an open altar of sorts, overlooking the entire room. Pillars lined the central path, intersecting staircases and leading to the roof with empty braziers and torches. It was a dark room and full of majesty and grandeur...And not a single monster or person. That was odd.

[Do you know what this room is for?] You asked or both charges, Tevoy responding with a deep groan of frustrated dismissal. As always Baehdor was more helpful, if only because she wasn't soaked to the bone in her own juices yet. "I...think this was supposed to be some kind of sidequest area. Yeah. Something about an altar to a God of some kind. I don't know why but I think it's been deactivated until it gets some sort of patch..." She muses, staring up at the ceiling. A ray of light beams down on the altar above, but the rest remains dark.

Counting from the ground floor up, you see seven rooms. The sheer size of the place means exploring would be best done separately, but do you trust your newfound servants not to flee? Baehdor may be obedient, but her loyalty and service seem to stem from not wanting to die and Tevoy is quite well into the camp of only being here because she has to be. You need to find out if this place is worth the effort to turn into your base of operations, but more importantly, you need to rest... It's been so long since you've slept you're almost positive you don't remember having done it before.

Do you trust your servants?
