The Ultimate Partner Finder

A familiar *buzz* sound coming from the table next to you reveals that you have a new notification on your phone.

It's an invitation to test a new dating app, or so you think. Skeptical of how only 500 people could properly test a dating app, you reluctantly click the invitation. It's free so what do you have to lose?

The description of the app reads as follows:

"Fill in your preferences for your dream partner using our vast list of hundreds of filters, ranging from their favorite color to the circumference of their left pinky toe, and book a trip to the person you pick using our built-in booking service!"

There was no chance anyone would match with anyone out of only 500 people with that many filters, right? And would you need to fill in your own information before starting? You are even more skeptical now, but you are down on your luck with dating, not that the description ever mentioned dating, but you click the big "download" button anyway.

The description wasn't lying. As soon as you open the app after it finishes downloading you are presented with a massive list of filters. It starts with the basic stuff like sex, gender, etc., but the further you scroll the more specific it gets: the exact measurements and shape of their butt, their specific political beliefs, and much more, mostly non-sexual, but a surprising amount of sexual filters.

You wonder how you will be able to fill out all this information about yourself but curiously there is no option to create a profile so you wonder how anyone will find a match.

You scroll back to the top. Then you notice something at the bottom of the screen: a button that says, "Show 5.15 billion results". A quick Google search confirms it: it's the entire adult human population!

You are baffled and creeped out over how they could possibly have gathered all this data, including from you, and you are concerned about the legality of this app, but your curiosity of finding the perfect partner eventually wins the debate and you decide to start filtering.
