The Best Treatment Yet

I guess we were always like most couples; we had love for each other and a lot of visions for our future together. Life sometimes likes to play ball and other times it likes to box you into submission. Being the kind of guy I am though, I was never one to back down from a challenge and A wasn't the type of girl to step down either. When A got diagnosed with cancer though, I couldn't help but be taken for a round.

They said that we had caught it in time, but that we had to make some serious plans for what we were going to do. A year and a half later, treatment had certainly taken us down a peg and changed our lives. A wasn't quite the same woman afterwards; normally energetic, spunky and carrying herself with an attitude, she had become much more drawn back and quiet. I had done the right thing considering the circumstances; I knew that we were hitting the fast forward button on our lives and stepped into the punch. Shortly after finding out, I proposed and we ended up quietly eloping.

Married life started chaotically with treatment, with it taking a toll on both of us. I used to be in decent shape but now after the better part of a year, I'm carrying around a bit extra weight. A had a hard time during treatment too; she's still the cute Chinese girl I fell for, but the heat we had when we started dating has cooled and she put on some weight that didn't all go to all the places she would have liked. Now on the other side of treatment, we've cooled things down in a new house and started thinking about a family. Despite a few months now of trying, we're starting to see the potential side effect of her treatment.
