It was a rainy night, the moonlight barely reached the stark, blackstone walls of Deepcleft. The heavy wooded gates creaked under the elements and the guards pressed themselves into the gateway to avoid the worst of the weather. A cart trundled along towards the gate. It carried a ragtag bunch of refugees; people from the outer towns that had been attacked by the orc clan.
The guards hailed the cart; "Who goes there?"
"Refugees from the dark forest hills," came the response. The driver slowed the cart.
"They'll need paperwork."
A woman stepped out of the cart, "We don't have it, our records were lost in the attack."
The guards eyed the woman.
