Spellbound: Darkness Revived

Dark magic has returned to your world. Will you be it's source or its victim?

Chapter 1 by Joggles44 Joggles44

You wake up to the sound of your alarm blaring. You snap your fingers and suddenly you are blessed with silence. You drag your self out of bed and open the curtains.

Best view in Rothaera, you think to yourself. You gaze out the window and at a society teeming with life and promise. Here, magi live separate from the other worlds. As a result, Rothaera is not only more technologically advanced, but also a certifiable utopia. Particularly your city, Tesos.

On Rothaera, the first day of spring marks the new year. And this year, it marks your 21st birthday. When a mage turns 21, they develop a specialty. Most are elementals, but some become expert healers or phenomenal telekinetics. The possibilities are just shy of endless.

Unfortunately, you will also have to check in monthly with a councilor to ensure you haven't been "corrupted". All because a monster made an empty threat while he laid dying. It's been a millennium and they still worry he might come back. You find it ridiculous.

You head to your living room and turn on your holo-vision. The news is on with a strange segment.

"Good morning, Tesos. The past few days have been riddled with strange occurrences. Thousands of people have been seen stocking up on necessities. So much so that stores are struggling to keep up. Stranger yet, we have reports suggesting that dozens of people have vanished without warning. Enforcers say they have found no signs of any struggles, no possessions were taken, and no one knows where any of these people might have gone. However, reports suggest that it could be fear of the Grim Reaper Azrael, the ancient dark mage that took the lives of hundreds of thousands on Earth. Historians tell us that Azrael looked into the future before his , and claimed that his corruption would one day consume 6 young magi. Those magi would harness his dark magic and bring about a second Dark Era."

You turn the holo-vision off. No way Azrael is ever coming back. No mage is strong enough to resurrect the dead. Still, it's awfully creepy to think about. You shake it off and get prepared for the day.

Before you continue with the story, are you male or female?
