Adventures in Conjoinment

What to do with a random spellbook...?

Chapter 1 by nothatperson nothatperson

Jane was average.

She had C cup breasts. She weighed 130 pounds, and was 5 feet and 4 inches tall. She had shoulder-length brown hair, though she's secretly wished to be a redhead. She wasn't all that curvy, she had a few freckles here and there...

For the most part, though, Jane was average. Average as hell.

She was excited, then, when she found something at the library. Nobody seemed to even notice the existence of a spellbook, sitting on the floor next to a table. If she hadn't rushed over and grabbed it, she would have sworn the dude walking past her would have stepped on it.

As she read through it, she became curious. It didn't look like this was a playful book, meant for children; there were no pictures, and it seemed to be all handwritten. Each letter was different from every other; each 'e' was different from every other 'e', as was every other letter in the book.

Jane read on. Every word was... interesting. Like it was an older version of English. Not too old, but old enough that she was sure it was before the 20th century at least. The vocabulary was odd, too. Explanations like "The feet on opposing sides shall melt, and so shall the legs corresponding. The legs shall furthermore form a single limb, which shall be moved by each participant to a degree, requiring cooperation from both parties." and "The hands on opposing sides shall hold, and furthermore shall melt together and prevent separation and use."

What kind of book was this? She read on. She read more explanations; they all seemed to be... she couldn't explain it. They all reminded her of siamese twins, though...

She closed the book and stood up, quickly, speed-walking to the desk.

"Can I, uh, check this out?" Jane asked, placing the book on the desk.

"Check what out?" The Librarian asked in return. "Grab something and I'll put it in."

"But I have something right here." She said, tapping the book.

The Librarian only sighed. "Grab a book, then I'll check it out for you."

"I... okay..." Jane said, uneasy. Why couldn't the Librarian see the book? She picked it up and started towards the door. She glanced at the librarian, but she only gave her a quick glance before returning to her work. Jane walked through the security gate, but nothing rang as the book passed through.

Jane kept thinking about the book on the drive home.

Once she was home, she quickly left her car, eager to get inside and try one of these. Only when she got in the house and closed her door did she realize; she'd need someone else to try it with.

She had a number of friends, any of which she could choose.

Who does she call?
