Chapter 17
by SmallestStories
Next day !
You wake up, nothing special here.
When waking up, you still felt kind of exhausted by last night's shockwave you created, but this exhaustion quickly faded away as you got more and more conscious. As you sat up, you could see the curtains were closed, not that you remembered if they were open or not last night, due to what happened. You could also see Aji's absence from the bed, making you exhale slowly, feeling more at ease already. And then you saw the time...
It was 3:00 pm already, and seeing it stunned you. You slept that much ? This brought two things to your mind : One, even while being dead, you still needed to recover from exhaustion, which was weird to think. Two, the fact that you slept this much must have a link to the shockwave you used. This was something quite bothersome if it was true, and you continued thinking about it while you got up and put your shirt and tuxedo back on, until you smelled the smell of food, which for some reason was strangely enticing.
You got out of Aji's bedroom after you finished dressing up, seeing her cooking a meal. Her three tails swished behind her, hiding most of her outfit, but you could see she was wearing a black t-shirt and shorts, going barefoot in her home as she cooked.
You didn't say anything as you walked up to her, but you noticed her fox ears twitching, signaling that she heard you come.
"You are finally up." She said without turning to you, too focused on her cooking. "I guess a dead's stamina isn't enough for them to use their powers without side effects when they just came back from wherever ?"
This was a question you couldn't really reply to, but hearing Aji ask it as if it was most likely that this was the reason why you slept so much, and not just some natural exhaustion, comforted your guess that your shockwaves were really linked to how much you slept.
"Give me a little while, I didn't expect you to wake up this early." Aji added, not saying it but the fact that she was cooking clearly meant that she was asking you to wait for her to finish the meal, and you didn't need to be told twice.
So the next thing you did was wash your hands, and then go sit at the table, enjoying the peace and the sound of meat and vegetables cooking. It was a relaxing experience for sure, and you found your mind wandering aimlessly, thoughts without real meanings drifting around in your head. And this slowly reminded you of your childhood, when you were still alive... Which in turn reminded you of your ****... Sometimes you regret overthinking your own thoughts.
"What's with the soulless stare ?" Aji suddenly asked, coming in unannounced with two plates. You couldn't see what they contained yet, but you could already smell it, and you knew that this would be another good meal for your dead body.
Don't ask why a dead guy eats please.
