Warn his father

Stewart returns to the throne room to tell his father what he has learned. The throne is empty, as is the room, except for a couple of servant girls, who are tidying up.

"Where did the king go?" he asks one of them.

Unaccustomed to being directly addressed by a member of the royal family, the girl is startled, but snaps to attention and says, "He was called away, Your Highness. A couple of soldiers came in and said something about needing his attention. They left just a few moments ago."

The girl looks nervously at Stewart and drops her eyes before looking up again. She is clearly in awe of this personal brush with royalty. Under different circumstances, Stewart might have used this to his advantage and attempted to charm her into a much closer brush with royalty that she would never forget. As it is, he has no time to waste.

"Which way did they go?" he demands.

Seeing her point in the opposite direction from the door where he entered, Stewart is left with a dilemma. If the king is with his personal royal guard, he should be quite safe, so maybe the best bet is for Stewart to resume his investigation of the two conspirators.
