Waiting For College To Start

I wake up early, but I have a morning wood -- no surprise, I wake up to them almost every day. I feel like I have to do so many things, most of them involve more self reflection, but I decide to go straight into sorting my school supplies. I have all of the boxes in my room, and I start organizing a bit of stuff, but mom calls me for breakfast early. I immediately run downstairs, and I’m surprised to see that Annie is here too -- she is distracted with her phone as always though, so it’s not that surprising.

We share breakfast quickly, and after that, the day goes fairly simple. I named my books, I organized some other stuff around the house, I cleaned the bathroom, I even helped mom install a tv that she ordered for her bedroom. I did a lot of stuff for mom, mostly helping her setting up furniture and some decorations. We spent the whole day doing this, it was all good -- but a little bit boring.

After a while, I decided to take a break, and I hopped on my bed. I was bored so I went to Reddit to watch some memes and nsfw, but I slowly started thinking about college. I’m supposed to start school next week, and I’m not ready for it. But as I know a way of ensuring I won’t feel like a total stranger in this new school, I check my contacts, find Matthew’s saved number, and I text him to see if he would respond.

-[Me]》Hey Matthew, it’s me André, from highschool… I was meaning to tell you something - I texted, before I went back to looking at some memes. He took a while to respond, but I finally got a response from him.

-[Matthew]》André, really? What’s up dog, how you doing? - he replies, and even though it would be nice to text each other, I decide to call him -- and he surprisingly picks up.

~ “Hey my man, how you doing? How long has it been since we last saw each other?... like 8 years?” - he asks in his characteristic goofy voice, which always makes me crack up -- and this is not the exception.

~ “Shit man, it definitely feels like it, I haven’t seen you in years… I’m good, how about you?” - I reply, trying to play along with his joke, even though it does feel like we haven’t talked in half a decade. In reality it has been only two years, but still, it’s quite a lot for both of us -- and I’m really interested to know what he has been up to.

~ "I'm great, you know... Things have been really good recently" - he replies cheerfully, which is good to hear, but I’m left curious about how exactly his life is in this new city -- but I’m not asking him about that, not yet.

~ "Good, it’s nice to know that you are doing great" - I say, somewhat awkwardly, as I don’t know what else to say. I’ve never been good at talking on the phone, but I’m genuinely happy for him.

~ "Hey, what are you doing? Why did you call?" - he then asks, and that’s when I know I have to tell him everything that happened.

~ "Well, I was just calling to let you know that I have recently moved to a new city... you might have heard of it actually... it's called Simple City and so far it has been really fun" - I reply playfully, but try not to tell much. I definitely don’t want to tell him about my father’s ****, so I’m just going to tell him the good news, and he seems to like them a lot.

~ "OHHHH SHIIIIT... Really?? I live here too man, we can hang out now... Did you know that this place is really good to lose your virginity? It's wonderful living here, you have to see it" - he exclaims excitedly. I already knew that he lived here, and I really know that this city is known for its high sexual activity, but it’s still fun to hear it from someone who has lived here for a couple of years - I wonder how Matthew’s experience was here… I’m sure he is no longer a virgin, you can have sex for free even in this city

~ "Yeah man, it's a lot of fun" - I reply, trying to keep the positiveness rolling, but of course he has to ask about something else.

~ "Hey, how are things with Valerie? Are you two still together or..." - Matthew asks awkwardly, probably knowing that the answer it’s not going to be affirmative. He wasn’t there when the whole breakup happened, but I’m sure someone must have told him, or he found out somehow. But while I’m not sure, I still choose to explain to him what happened.

~ "No man, I had to break up with her, I won't be able to see her again so it was the best thing to do..." - I respond with a sigh. I technically did tell the truth, but I honestly don’t want to explain much, so Matthew doesn’t feel the need to ask more questions.

~ "Ohhh, I'm sorry to hear that, you two were a real good couple..." - he says, but I don’t give him time to ask more about my now ex-girlfriend, as I quickly switch the topic - I think he also had a crush on Valerie, maybe that’s why he was curious to know about her… I don’t care now, whatever happens to her is none of my business now.

~ "Yeah thanks man... but you know, now I applied to college and I'm going to a special school here called Sunset College, I hope it’s good..." - I comment, hoping to get a reaction from my old friend, and I get exactly one.

~ “NO WAAAAAY… Not only are you in the same city as me, but you are also going to the same college!! This is awesome!!” - he exclaims, and we both burst into laughter.

~ “I know man, as I said before… it’s going to be a lot of fun” - I reply, already thinking about the fun I can have with Matthew, and hopefully the other friends I can make -- but I’m sure he is going to introduce me to his friends, and they must be just as funny as he is.

~ "You know it... also we are going to be lucky, there are tons of hot chicks in this city so we might be able to get a couple of girls, and you know..." . Matthew says jokingly, but I know in this city that’s no joke. I thought the time I had sex in the bathroom of my old school was wild, and a one in a lifetime experience, but I feel like here it’s going to happen pretty much everyday -- if I’m lucky of course.

~ "Yea, yea, I know... I just want to meet friends and then maybe get to talk to some cute girls" - I chuckle, trying not to get too excited about meeting some girls, but I honestly believe Matthew. I can’t wait to see all the cuties I find at school, but of course I can’t get distracted with them now, so I keep worrying about myself, not some adorable girls.

~ "Well it starts in like a week so I’ll see you soon, I have to go now but we'll keep talking in the future... We should hang out later" - Matthew says, and even though we can’t talk anymore, I’m happy to hear he is excited for us to hang out more soon -- and I know it will be great, we just have to wait a little bit.

~ "Yeah, good idea... Alright man see you soon" - I reply, before going back to bed. Cool, I was able to talk to my old friend and now I at least have someone to hang out with in school... Speaking of which, it's really soon so I should get prepared... man I'm so excited… - I say to myself, and then continue doing stuff around the house.

That day, I went to sleep early, and somehow woke up the next morning late. Wednesday was fairly normal, I didn't do too much. I kept sorting some stuff, helping around the house, and all in all, it was a pretty simple, and boring day -- except for one small moment. At breakfast, mom bent over to pick up a spoon she dropped in the kitchen, and it allowed me to fully admire her gorgeous ass. I struggled to keep myself entertained, but it was finally Sunday night, and I was ready to go to college. Mom came to my bedroom, she never did that, but she needed to wish me luck for my return to school.

“Alright sweetheart, goodnight… Remember that tomorrow is the start of your new college life so I hope you are ready…” - she whispered to me, after tucking me in like a baby, and giving me a kiss on the forehead -- it’s a bit childish of me to want this at my age, but I love it, and I really need her support.

“I love you, sleep tight” - she said to me, and with that she left my bedroom -- after I said I love you too, of course. She had made me feel safe, and I was comfortable enough to start falling asleep already, but even mom’s sweet kisses couldn’t stop me from worrying about my future -- I just always get nervous when a big event in my life is waiting for me right around the corner, I can’t help it.

What if I'm not cool anymore? What if people don't like me? I hope I can make new friends and they don't just ignore me... I'm so scared… This isn’t highschool anymore, maybe I will have to change to fit in… - I ask myself anxiously. My fear of being rejected has always been a constant concern for me, but it’s now the biggest. I’m insecure of what might happen tomorrow, or how I’m going to interact with my new classmates, or if they would even want to interact with me - Maybe the people here are very sophisticated and they won’t like me for how I look or talk, who knows?

I’m thankfully starting to fall asleep though, so I don’t have to worry about it so much. So while I’m still thinking of how the next day is going to be, I try to get rid of all of my worries, and just begin to sleep. But before I can do so, I keep one final thought in my head, one last thing that will keep me positive for my start of college - I guess we’ll see… Tomorrow is another day… a big day…
