Try to escape on the horse

Adella has to concede that if there is ever going to be a chance to escape, it is now while the beast is devouring its meal. She grabs her sword, leaving the rest of their belongings behind, and cautiously opens the door to step outside.

"Do you hear anything?" Courtney asks, breathlessly.

Adella listens carefully, but only eerie silence meets her ears. "No, I do not," she whispers. "Let us make haste; perhaps the creature has wandered some distance off to feed."

As silently as possible, the women creep toward the stable. Once there, they are met with the horrifying sight of blood splatters in all directions. Fortunately, one of the horses appears unharmed, though most definitely spooked from the experience.

Adella unties the horse and climbs onto it, motioning for Courtney to sit behind her. As she mounts the horse, it utters a sound of alarm and begins to jump. Adella pats its neck and whispers calming words to the poor animal.

"Let's get out of here!" Courtney urges.

Adella doesn't have to be told twice, and after making sure she is well situated on the horse, gives a quick tap to the horse's sides, sending it running from the stable.

No sooner does the horse get moving than the women hear a fearsome roar from the woods. They turn around in horror and see the fierce werewolf bounding toward them.

"Faster!" cries Courtney. Adella, kicks the horse, urging it to move faster, but that is hardly necessary. The horse, aware of the werewolf's pursuit, launches into a full gallop.

"It's no use! It is gaining on us!" cries Courtney. Adella turns to look. Sure enough, the distance between them and the beast was closing by the second. As Adella was frantically thinking what to do, she felt her friend lean toward her, give her a kiss on the cheek, and say, "Your Highness, I got you into this. I will buy you some time. Flee and do not look back!"

Before the princess could respond, Courtney threw herself from the galloping horse. "Courtney! What are you doing?" Adella cried after her. She tried to stop and turn around, but the crazed animal would have none of it and continued to speed away from the danger behind it.

Adella turned just in time to see Courtney climb to her feet and call out to the werewolf. The bloodthirsty creature stopped its pursuit of the horse and abruptly changed direction, heading straight toward Courtney. Adella watched in horror as Courtney grabbed hold of the front of her dress, ripped it open and spread her arms wide for the approaching creature.

Adella could see nothing more of the scene as the horse raced into the forest. She gripped her sword and tried to decide what to do.
