Of all the places his father could be, Stewart happens to be closest to his chambers. Since there is a better than even chance that he has retired there until the ceremonies recommence, Stewart decides to check there first.

He arrives at the door to his parents’ private quarters and is surprised to find the door partially open and unguarded. Typically the king is accompanied at all times by his personal bodyguards, although he has been known to dispense of them while in the safety of the palace. It is quite rare, however, for the door to his chambers to be left unguarded.
