Take him to the house

Jack really does look pathetic, and Alex can’t help but think that he could just as easily be in Jack’s situation. “Alright,” he says, reluctantly. “Let’s go get something from the kitchen, but be quick about it. There’s no telling when Mrs. Murphy will return.”

He two young men make their way from the workshop to the house and enter through the front door. Seeing no one, they go to the kitchen, where Jack immediately begins filling his pockets with rolls, fruit, and cheese.

“Hey, just a few things, ok?” says Alex. “I don’t want them to think the place got robbed or anything.”

Jack nods and says something, but the words are lost on Alex, due to Jack’s mouth being stuffed with food.

“I’ll just run into my room and check to see if your clothes are in the closet,” says Alex. “I’ll be right back.”

He leaves Jack in the kitchen. As he starts toward his room, his eyes dart toward Elaine’s room. The door is closed. That’s just as well, he thinks. The last thing he needs is for her to see Jack and either freak out or — more likely — go into one of her full-blown nympho episodes and do the very thing that caused Jack’s expulsion in the first place.

Alex enters his room and looks in the closet. Sure enough, he finds a bag filled with clothing that has to be Jack’s. He is about to take it and return to the kitchen when he hears the sound of a door opening and closing. He cannot tell if it is the front door or one of the house’s interior doors.
