“We can’t leave you here,” you said to Wonder Woman, and both heroes turned to raise their eyebrows at you. Zatanna seemed torn on your support of her but she used it.

“See? Doctor’s orders,” the magician retorted. Diana was still unconvinced and sighed.

“John is a civilian. He can’t trek the wilds with us it’s too dangerous,” she started.

“I won’t. I’ll stay here,” you said quickly. “With Zatanna.”

“What?” The magician didn’t seem to like that part of your plan.

“Wonder Woman, we can’t just leave. I know you have your mission, but so do I,” you went on. “You only just recovered, and we can no longer safely predict when your addiction symptoms will hit. When an episode might happen. Doctor McGee was expecting you not need a dose for another six hours but then you relapsed.”

“You almost died,” Zatanna cut in the correct you. At least she knew how serious the condition was. You continued.

“This crash came out of nowhere… we don’t know how stable you will be.”

“I’m stable,” insisted the warrior, in a warning tone.

“You are,” you nodded. “But for how long? We can’t know. So we can’t leave. Look, resume your mission, and Zatanna will protect me in here. But if anything happens out there, we’ll be able to back you up. Right?” Now you turned to the sorceress, who regarded you with an unreadable expression but then nodded.

“If that’s what it takes,” she said.

The Amazon looked between her saviours and took a breath.

“Alright. But I’m trusting you to ensure no harm comes to the Doctor,” she told Zatanna sternly.

“And I’m trusting you come back and fly us out of here,” the magician replied as she produced some trinkets from her magic hat. She handed a thin silver bracelet to Wonder Woman with a small purple crystal hanging from it. “I can track you with this, and it will send us a signal when you need us,” explained Zatanna, giving one to you as well. “And we will be able to contact you too if need be.”

Diana nodded, putting it on and tucking it under her bracer. You let Zatanna dangle it around your wrist.

“I must go,” said Wonder Woman, stepping past the sorceress down the ramp of the plane. “Keep her in stealth mode. I will return shortly.”

As the hangar started to rise and close off the ship, you saw Wonder Woman dive into the jungle, sword in hand.
