Chapter 10 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

What's next?

Shiryoku Zai's opening move

The silver-haired lady, still clattering away on her wardrobe / personal computer, tilted her glasses down for just a moment and watched Keiko, before replacing them and returning to her work. You got the impression she might not actually need those to see, but instead just wore them as part of her job. In fact... you wondered if they impaired her eyesight somewhat.

"Good to meet you. You may call me whatever you like. I'll endeavor to end this quickly so we can both go back to our priestly duties," Shiryoku muttered a quick introduction, somewhat muffled by the turtleneck she wore. It seemed like even speaking was foreign to her at this point...

"My intention is to end 'priestly duties' for all of us," Keiko responded, leveling her sword in her opponent's direction. "I intend to liberate you from those duties as well. Look at yourself... Bungen has taken from you everything that made you human. You've been reduced to a human computer!"

The other girl stopped tapping for just a moment, then sighed and continued. "Before Bungen found me, I was ignorant and lived a pointless life. My people lived in forests, using simple wooden tools with barely the roots of civilization to know to domesticate animals. When he brought my people in to his corporation and had us adopt his faith, our wealth, technology, and means of living grew exponentially- that is no exaggeration. Whenever I choose to retire, I will have accumulated enough wealth to support not just my family, but my entire nation, for centuries to come," the ordinarily quiet priestess spoke at length. "You'll understand too, once Bungen brings you into his fold. I am sorry that a diligent priestess such as yourself has been burdened with such a useless god." From the God Box, her master applauded her, clapping together those long, thin-fingered hands of his.

"Were your people unhappy in those forests?" Keiko asked, seeming as if she'd already anticipated this type of argument. "I imagine your family had lived that way for centuries before his interference."

Shiryoku looked to Mila Minute, who, in turn, gave a fierce grin. Sighing, Shiryoku moved her hands to a new position, placing one upon her wrist and the other about waist height, hitting new keys.

Mila Minute chopped her hand through the air then gave a dramatic bellow: "Kami Kurabe bout: World Resources Battle... Opeeeeen!!"

At once, Shiryoku was muttering to herself at a speed faster than human speech ought to be able to allow. "Bomb. Bomb. Remote Sentry. Bomb. Bomb. Barrier. Checkout. Bomb. Bomb. Bomb. Bomb. Repeat order. Repeat order. Repeat order."

Your priestess clicked her teeth irritably; she could tell she'd already lost any hope at a head-start. To you, it sounded like Shiryoku was playing a real time strategy game, not a fighting game!

Overhead, you saw at first three... then ten... then suddenly, countless of those flying seeds coming in, joined also by other types of all-natural delivery mechanisms, each entangling sprouts and roots around massive black, metal or plastic containers with the word "BUNGEN" printed across them. There were so many that the golden floor of the arena was starting to look like swiss cheese, thanks to all of the circular shadows cast upon it. Not only that, it was becoming hard to talk or hear over all of the whirring.

Luckily, telepathy isn't affected by noises like that. This was good, seeing as you could tell Keiko needed some hardcore coaching at this point...

How will you instruct Keiko to defeat this first attack?
