Chapter 26 by Colleem Colleem

I know i have been working on this for an age ^^ wasnt easy, but i hope you enjoy it. Would like to hear your Thoughts about this "Turning Point" in the Story

An relaxing Day

For some reason, the next morning I felt better than ever. It was one of those days that could only be good. As I lay in bed staring at the ceiling, the events of the previous evening were still buzzing around in my head. It had been simply indescribable. On the one hand a terrible **** and on the other hand the paradise. My body was crazy about Jean's caresses and desperately wanted more. No... Wanted to have everything. But my mind told me that this would be the wrong way. However, the evening had shown that it would need no more influence. Jean would soon be mine.

Thoughtfully I sat upright in bed at these words and looked at my hands.

" Mine?"

Slowly I cursed my conscience. It kept coming back in spurts, but I found it easier to push it aside by now. Jean had decided to take this step yesterday without the slightest influence from me! I was completely innocent of it, if one could say so. It was simply a fact that she had decided to do it and realized that Scott could not offer her what I was offering her. Besides, it wasn't like I wasn't going to take care of Scott. Once I was with Jean, it was a given that I would make Scott happy as well. Emma would surely love to make sure that Scott would never be lonely.

At least that had been the plan so far. Because Emma had left me a surprise.

There was a short knock on the door and when I said come in Laura looked at me. Her long black hair and her beautiful eyes blinked at me in amusement. Quite different from the aloof goth chick from the last day of school. Accordingly, I seemed confused right now. Not that her smile wasn't beautiful, it was just unfamiliar.

"Hey dean... right?" as I nodded, she continued. "Miss Frost asked me to check on you for a bit in her absence, you being new and all."

"Oh. That's really awesome of you. Uh. Did she say what she wanted you to help me with?" I asked, confused because I had to be ready for anything with Emma.

"Well, what do you think, weirdo! Settling in here. I'm still new here myself and have my problems, but maybe we newbies can stick together?" she asked when she came in. "Miss Frost said we'd get along great!" she said a little absently, and slowly it dawned on me. Emma must have noticed that I was fascinated by the woman in front of me. Since she didn't know that I was after Jean, she probably assumed that I needed a friend in case Emma was gone. Since I had no idea what Emma had done to her, I decided not to go into details and just wait and see what would happen. However, I realized again that maybe I shouldn't leave Emma just for Scott. After all, she was always 3 steps ahead of me and I didn't want to do without her advice or her skills. Besides, the thought of having Emma AND Jean in the same bed was almost more than I could bear.

"That sounds like a plan, though. But I can't talk too much because of my gift." I told her then and she nodded.

"Sure. I've already figured that out. Don't worry. You can ask me for anything! I'm aware of your powers, but Miss Frost said it was okay."

"She did?" I asked, grinning.

"Of course, or are you saying I'm lying?" she asked more aggressively as two blades sprang from her right hand. Even if she didn't have the figure of Wolverine, the menacing aura was almost the same. So was the short fuse!

"Uh... No, no! Of course not. I would never think of it!" I hurried to reply, watching the two blades slide back into her body.

"Wise decision! You're not as dumb as you look!" she grinned broadly and I quickly realized that it had not been a serious insult, but rather her way. Somehow, she reminded me of Wolverine, and not just because of the blades.

"What's there to stare at? Never seen a girl that doesn't run around like everyone else?" she asked almost more aggressively and I raised my hands defensively.

"I have to say I think your look is cool!" I said honestly and immediately her features became a little more uncertain, but softer.

"Really?"

"Sure! Personally, I don't think Slayer is the best of all bands, but when I look at you like that, it kind of fits." I grinned and meant the Slayer shirt she was wearing. I got a laugh for that and she nodded.

"Shit. I never thought of that before. I guess Miss Frost was right. I'm sure you and I will get along great!" she laughed and gave me her hand. "Laura is my name. But some people around here call me X-23."

"Weird nickname." I asked, and she shrugged.

"I'm an evolved clone of Logan. Model X-23. But of course, I'm much better looking than him!" she said, and yet I sensed she wasn't taking it as lightly as she was trying to show it.

"Okay. Then we'll just stick with Laura and ignore this brain-twisting nonsense! Nice to meet you!"

Nodding, she agreed with me and then we were off towards the outdoor facility. Sunday was just too nice to spend it inside. It didn't take long there for others to join us. Colossus and Jubilee were not present at the moment, as I learned that they had been assigned to the guard area of the estate for their shift. Since I was still a new student, I had been left out of this plan since I had not yet enjoyed any instruction in the defensive measures of the school. As we sat there talking about all these things I wondered why a school with over 100 mutants, some of them in the range of an X-Men, really needed any protective measures until I remembered that this place was designed for kids to be themselves and not soldiers.

Unfortunately for me, I didn't get a chance to talk to Jean for the rest of the day because she seemed to be avoiding me. However, everyone was also very tense at the moment, even if each of the older students tried to make it seem completely normal. But also, the younger ones tried to bear the situation with composure. They were used to being in danger, but this time they realized that it was bad. While I never had a good relationship with children, it was amazing that the gothic bride, Laura, of all people, was the best at dealing with them. She went straight to the playground and played so freely with the younger students that they didn't have time to worry.

As the sun slowly set and the students slowly all went back to school, I sat together with some others in one of the many living rooms and we followed the current events in the news. And the news was coming thick and fast. Some recordings had it in itself. There was footage from the Hubble telescope showing a massive humanoid standing right next to Jupiter in space. The problem with the image was the fact that the man was almost as big as the entire planet. Like flying, the massive figure was seen by fliers that, when zoomed in further, turned out to be Quinn jets. At the same time, all major newspapers and television stations had been given information about this enemy. They called him Galactus and apparently this battle had surpassed even the capabilities of the Avengers. A composite of the Avengers, Dr. Doom, the Fantastic Four and some alien forces was about to fight this enemy. Cpt America himself informed the people that this time the Avengers had to fight the battle outside Earth space to prevent this being from destroying the planet.

At the same time, although with much less coverage, heavy fighting was reported in Canada. Individual eyewitness accounts were told of X-Men and a green monster.

Finally, Laura suggested that it was time to sleep. Agreeing, we walked toward our rooms and as I stood outside my door, she smiled at me and asked.

"Miss Frost told me to take care of your physical needs in her absence. Whatever concerns."

What's next?
