Chapter 3 by Debbuger Debbuger

Where does that voice come from?

Campsite the night before [Main Male Hero Path]

"News from your Father's war camp" The courier from the king delivered "The Ashani and Durvani joined our coalition. We are preparing to march at first light" The courier continued, DEBUG_HERO and his party looked at eachother, for the first time in months hopeful. "Thank you friends, we couldn't have done it without you" DEBUG_HERO said, raising his flagon to toast his friends. "Thank you courier, please deliver to my father that we will join him in the morning" the messenger nodded and turned to leave. DEBUG_HERO was sitting on a tree stump and watched as the man got up on a horse and rode away, he has been waiting for this moment for months, ever since they lost the capital, ever since his Father was driven mad by a spell and dethroned by the court wizard. They've spent months trying to find someone who could restore his father's sanity, then more time was spent on finding allies in the struggle to take their home and rightful rule back. And this whole quest has been converging exactly to this moment, DEBUG_HERO and his friends camping on a hilltop overlooking his father's army.

"What are you thinking about?" he heard Sara's sultry voice ask, he turned back to look at her only to be dumbstruck. In front of him wasn't the redhead childhood friend, the one he has been trusting most since they were kids, especially since all the dethronement happened. No, in front of him stood a tall lean figure, pale almost white of skin, pointy ears reminiscent of Eleara's people with intricate tattoos around her bright golden eyes. He's been seeing this figure in his dreams for years now, for months her visage appeared in his periphery, always to the side, watching over him, accompanying him on his quest, always silent and stoic. DEBUG_HERO has always relegated that figure to be a figment of his imagination, a side effect of the curse afflicting his father.

"Well, share your thoughts with me, my love" the stoic face asked again, time seemed to stand still as DEBUG_HERO couldn't see or feel the presence of any of his party, just him and the pale stoic woman in front of him.

"Why am I seeing you?" DEBUG_HERO asked, his eyes captivated by her gaze, his breath quickening. "Because we both want to, my love" the woman answered, her shoulder length white hair flowing in an inexistent wind. "Tomorrow will be the day we finally unite, and you will take your place on the throne beside me" the woman continued, her tone was gentle, her voice was soft yet deep and somewhat raspy. "What do you mean take the throne beside you? Who are you?" DEBUG_HERO was at a loss, the throne has been held by Agramon, his father's former court wizard. He has been sitting on the throne and ruling like a madman ever since he cursed the former king, DEBUG_HERO's father. "Oh, you're so cute when you don't know what's going on" she said, "I am Morrigan, I am the ruler of EVIL_EMPIRE and now of KINGDOM_TITLE as well. Last daughter of the Dranie" she slowly emphasised, her tone slightly angrier when finishing the sentence. "And I have been following you and helping you along your way" she continued "because you are my loved one, and you are the one who deserves to be king by my side". DEBUG_HERO snapped back by this, questions filled his mind "Wait, how did you help me?" he questioned, not seeing any evidence from external aid anywhere in his quest. His outburst brought a smile to her pale face, her lips parted and showed white marble teeth. "Who did you think brought you all these companions" she gestured around her, her arms coming from the side of her flowing robes, the still images of his friends appeared in front of him as she focused on them.

"Why do you think the elven maiden you love filling with your seed was right there on your path, waiting for the white knight?" Morrigan pointed to Eleara, the blonde elf with the otherworldly body shape. "Or how come your redhead playtoy decides to rob people exactly on the path you were passing through?" she gestured to Sara. "What about the pretty little mage girl, who was fleeing from her evil order because they found her dabbling with the occult. Just when you were in town" DEBUG_HERO remembered the purple haired mage, Anara, running into him one day in the market as they were passing by, an opportunity pleading for his help. "Barred, as if this hulking mess will ever give up his honour and accept to be hired, but I nudged him to" she gestured to the dark skinned mountain of a man. "I foresaw their role to play and nudged all of them your way." she finished, her face still showed a small smile, even though DEBUG_HERO read it as a nefarious one now.

"Why did you help me then? Why you want me to be king?" DEBUG_HERO finally asked, after some deliberation. "I'm practical" She answered, "_I will spare you the history lesson, but I am here to retake what is mine, your kingdoms stand where my people stood._ The EVIL_EMPIRE was easy to take, they believe the strongest sorcerer should rule, so I just vaporised their former emperor and his entire family." She declared with power surging through her. Only to stop, trying to see the reaction on DEBUG_HERO's face. "Your kingdom was a bigger challenge, you and all of your traditions and laws. Laws written by babies compared to the Dranie traditions." she commented with distaste. "First I was plotting to kill you, remove the heir and create a succession crisis, then just swoop in and gather the pieces as your kingdom burns itself from all the infighting" she continued, disregarding the look of horror DEBUG_HERO was exhibiting. "But the longer I watched you grow, the more fascinated I have become. You were good hearted, unlike your ancestors I could see the good in you. Sure, you were playful and full of mischief, not a perfect saint neither by the standards of your religion nor mine. But I could feel the love of life in you" she stopped pacing, turning her full attention to him, her ethereal hand reaching to caress his face.

"I have lived countless of your human lives, and you were the first human I saw that I deemed should be alive, my love" she smiled softly, her face growing closer to DEBUG_HERO's, almost coming to a kiss. "So I changed my plans" she suddenly said, moving away from him, he caught himself from stopping her and keeping her close, not sure why that was his body's first reaction. "At first I tried to secure a betrothal with you, to which your father opposed. The fool was more interested in securing an alliance with one of the human houses, and gods forbid he will marry you of to a non-human." She stopped, DEBUG_HERO father's views weren't ne to him, but it was off-putting hearing it out loud. "So I decided to remove him using your imbecile of a court wizard" she continued to sway around, her focus somewhere else, DEBUG_HERO could swear it felt as though she was just telling him how her day went. "I have no idea how your father trusted that fool, as soon as he removed your father he just took the throne to himself, just another power hungry human" she sighed, her eyes coming back into level with DEBUG_HEROs', "I had to step in and take care of him, so he's no longer relevant, I'll put his body on display when you charge my gates tomorrow".

For the first time DEBUG_HERO stopped and looked around, he was still in the campsite but all the colours were dull, neither the air nor the fire or anything else moved. His friends were in the background but looked like statues rather than living people. "Am I really talking to you?" he suddenly asked. Morrigan smiled "Yes you are sweety. I will see you tomorrow, my love" and she blew him a kiss. As the colour started to come back to the world, DEBUG_HERO found himself sitting on a tree stump, his flagon raised.

"Well dumdum? What are you thinking about?" He heard Sara's voice, unsure if it's really her. "Nothing, sorry, I think I had too much to drink" he said, put down his flagon and walked to his tent.

Good night sleep?
