Chapter 16 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

Will Palas accept the suspicious drink? Also, if you're curious, should we check in on Dyna's mission?

Dyna is having a hard time finding a way in, until she spots some dogs...

While Palas was keeping the wealthy vampire busy, Dyna made her way around the mansion, keeping her body low to the shadows (not hard, when one is as short as the captain) and looking for a good point of entry. She supposed it was naive to think she'd find an unlocked window... the few she tried were fastened shut. She didn't dare break one and risk alerting a guard. There had to be something... a garbage chute? A net-covered door she could cut her way through? A door some careless zombie had shambled out of and left open?

There was nothing like that! "Dammit! I guess you don't get to be a wealthy vampire by letting robbers and things sneak around quietly in your house," she huffed, puffing out her cheeks in annoyance as she made her way to the final part of the mansion: a dog kennel. This was probably the most dangerous infiltration point... if the dogs were trained to jump intruders, they might attack on sight. That became a distinctly worrisome possibility, as she noticed that De Geomorte's dogs were all brutal looking doberman pinschers, patrolling like watch-dogs. Each had a spiked collar about its neck, each with a gold pendant dangling. Some sort of magic charm?

Regardless, she wondered if it was already too late. She was well within smelling distance of the dogs. Sure enough, the many creatures began to bound towards her, not barking, but still utterly imposing in their speed and ****. Clenching her teeth, she reached for her sword, but then thought the better of it... if Palas didn't want her harming the vampire, that probably extended to leaving the vampire's pets alone too...!

Instead, she was tackled full on, falling to the dirt as the dog climbed up past her considerable chest and began licking her all about the face. "Daaaw! You're a good boy! Who's a good boy?!" she giggled, scritching the dog all over the head and ears. It figured; the dog was probably trained only to stop humans entering. Dyna would have the smell of an imp... and possibly the blood of countless demon cyclops, ogres, and other such creatures that routinely raided the towns' outer gates. "Yeeeah, you're a cutie~"

As she enjoyed rolling around with the doggies, who were now approaching in greater numbers to play, she noticed a stroke of good fortune... A doggy door! Maybe she was small enough to squeeze through? "Bingo!" the knight captain cheered preemptively, sure that her lithe(?) figure would let her pop on in. She probably ought to consider that while she may be short, that didn't mean she was thin...

How much trouble is Dyna going to have fitting through that doggy door?
