Chapter 4 by Deadedge Deadedge

Now what?

Follow the robot.

You were in space in your bathrobe so of course the only thing to do was follow the robot. You caught up to it easily, even in your slippers, and accompanied your artificial tourguide around a few corners and down a few empty corridors. There were other robots like this one doing things at various stations. Perhaps making repairs or routine maintenance on the Watchtower. But you didn't see another single living being here and was starting to grow suspicious before it stopped at a wide metal door that had frosted windows on the upper half.

The robot was about to interact with a keypad of some kind until it seemed to hear something which made it stop, reconsider, then hover backwards a foot. It paused, then turned to stare at you with its non-face.

"Please wait a moment," it said, convincingly apologetic in it's tone and the slight bow it gave. You wondered if something was wrong then realised you could hear it too. You saw movement behind the frosted glass, noticing what must have been figures beyond the door. Human figures? The sound was oddly familiar in a way... yes. It sounded like people talking... loudly. A disagreement.

"What's happening?" you asked the robot. The very human like movements of the android as it tilted it head, as if listening to the argument, was endearing in a weird way. It seemed to contemplate something before answering you.

"I believe... there has been a change of plan,” it said.

There was muffled yelling that died down almost immediately, but still you took an instinctive step back when you saw the shadows grow in the frosted window. There were a series of beeps and the door slid open.

What you saw was the back a very tall individual wearing a very long white labcoat.

“Please! You must reconsider!” said the labcoat… that is the person wearing the labcoat who seemed to be desperately trying to block someone from walking through the door to where you were. There was a prolonged silence where the tension in the air made you not want to move a muscle… then you saw the shoulders of the labcoat sag and then came a sigh. “Fine.” The labcoat stepped to one side and you realised that it was a very tall, slender woman with dark hair wearing the coat. You spied her name tag then, which read “McGee.”

This jogged your memory, and in seeing the profile of this woman’s face you recognised that this was Tina McGee. THE Tina McGee. Famed S.T.A.R Labs metahuman biology specialist scientist, Tina McGee. This woman was one of your actual real life heroes. You could barely believe it.

Then the actual superhero stepped forward, passing the scientist and filling your view. Holy shit.

It was...
