Has an inheritance coming

To Lauren and her family's surprise Mr. Snidely had called them all down to his office to hear the reading of her great Aunt's last will and testament. None of them had heard from Old Aunt Audrey in years and had no idea that she had even died. She had always been a dramatic person and had instructed Mr. Snidely to deliver the news in this way. One final shock from beyond the grave.

Once Lauren and her family recovered from this news, Snidely cleared his throat and read her Aunt's final words. She talked about her life, her experiences and the many accomplishments which had lead to her great wealth. The attorney then cleared his throat and went on to tell them about the distribution of their Aunt's estate. As they sat there, Lauren a bundle of nerves, he drew the process out with lots of legalese that she barely understood. Then when she didn't think she could stand the tension one second longer, Snidely addressed her directly, and told her what her great Aunt had determined to leave her in her will.

To her great astonishment, Aunt Audrey had left her almost everything! Money, houses, car, land, stocks and even some horses. Lauren loved horses and her eyes were wide with amazement at what was happening. Her mother and sister were less pleased, they it seemed had been almost totally overlooked and sat there, arms crossed, fuming with jealousy, but Lauren didn't notice. Lauren was lost picturing the great new life she would have with this inheritance.

Then came the catch. Snidely brought Lauren back down to earth with the pronouncement that this inheritance was contingent. It was stimulated in her Aunt's will that Lauren would receive everything previously mentioned if and only if she met certain conditions within a predetermined time period. If Lauren failed to do this, all that wealth and all those valuable holdings would go to her Mother and her sister, who smiled and shared a conspiratorial look.
