The excitement spreads

A lot of the villagers knew, or knew of Gorheap. He was the King's wise man, or wizard, one of the few allowed to practice magic in the kingdom. When people saw him, it usually meant something great was afoot. The crowd of onlookers mumbled and speculated amongst themselves about what his appearance here could possibly mean. Why did he single out Dunea and Tam, the two half breeds? While Tam had an endearing effect on most of the villagers, Dunea did not, being half Drow. Maybe he wanted them both to participate in some wizardly experiment?

Dunea listened with half interest to their mutterings, and suddenly felt downcast, giving in to despair. Tamanthia knew her friend well, and right away tried to change her mood. She loved Dunea like a sister "Don't listen to them" she began. "They have no idea what's going on. This is not an invitation to the wizard's tower. Why would he give us bags of gold to buy dresses with if that were the case? Don't let these horrible ingrates spoil our day."

Dunea smiled at her friend. "You're right. I'm just being silly." She took Tam into her arms, and hugged her close. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Tam." She felt so safe in Tam's arms. "Please don't ever leave me."

"Dunea, you silly girl!" Tam exclaimed. "Now why would I ever want to do that? It's been us against the world. We'll make it together."

As they comforted each other, and looked into each other's eyes. Dunea's eyes began to sparkle and glow with the warmth of love. She had no idea of her exact heritage, for she was not a Drow born by a servant of Lolth, the Spider Queen. Instead, her mother had served Eilistraee, the Dark Maiden, the goddess of moonlight and beauty. Drow who served the goddess were given the ability to find their life's mate. When they did, their eyes would sparkle and glow with love and passion for their chosen one once they reached adulthood.

Tam looked into Dunea's eyes, and she saw the sparkle, and the glow. She smiled sweetly. "You know, your eyes are glowing. They look so beautiful. In fact, I've never noticed just how beautiful they really are until now." She suddenly felt drawn to Dunea, and felt a desire to kiss her. She tried to snap herself out of it. "Dunea?" she questioned, rather timidly.

"Yes?"

"I want to kiss you" Tam admitted. Her face flushed red. "But not here, in front of all these people."

"Of course" Dunea agreed as she came to her senses. "They have enough to talk about right now. Why don't we go see our parents?"

"I think that's a good idea" said Tam as she took Dunea's hand and led her to their parents' table.
