Chapter 4 by Phantompen Phantompen

What does Kimiko do to prove her innocence?

Ask the Council to assign her an Act of Penitence.

"I cannot hope to bring these pirates to justice by myself." Kimiko admitted, bowing her head in shame. "But, if the Council allows it, I am willing to undergo an act of penitence as a symbolic gesture."

A ripple of whispers ran through the assembled officials, a bit taken aback by the princess's offer. Could someone guilty of treason really be so readily willing to accept judgment? What's worse, if the princess was indeed innocent, they'd be subjecting her to a punishment for no reason.

Mr. Fouka realized that he was in danger of losing control of this meeting. Thinking quickly he stood and loudly cleared his throat, bringing the room's attention back to him.

"Princess..." Mr. Fouka began. "If you are indeed willing to throw yourself at our mercy, then I believe we can compromise and be lenient. There's no reason to inflict an **** punishment on you for a crime that you truly regret, or may even be innocent of. I will have experts reexamine the evidence against you once your act of penitence is complete. As for the act itself, I believe I have a suitable idea in mind."

What punishment does he have in mind for Kimiko?
