Chapter 9 by Duskford Duskford

What Zack's going to do now?

Everyone's back at the cabin

Heather was in the kitchen preparing the food for their lunch, it was a tedious activity but since she and Victoria were the only ones amongst them who knew the first thing about cooking a proper meal, it was decided that the two of them would be in charge of the meals.

However, despite that arrangement, Heather had to prepare the food almost all by herself this time, seeing as Victoria seemed more interested in laughing at Kurt’s idiotic jokes. She was becoming really pissed at her cousin for everything he did since that morning. The brunette cheerleader sighed, Vicky seemed to be ignoring her own recent resolution of never falling for jerks again. Ever since her last bad date, Heather and Ashley had drilled that into the blonde’s mind until she admitted her bad taste in guys. Hell, looks like she forgot all about her promise.

Heather briefly glanced through the window in front of her, Zack, Gavin and Chloe were at the deck talking. Why can’t Vicky fall for guys like Zack or Gavin?

Looking at Zack once more, she grinned. It had been way too fun to tease him in the bathroom and at the lake. Despite them being friends for two years, Heather couldn’t remember too many times in which she was alone with the blue-eyed boy in the past. She shrugged, there was time for everyone to get to know each better during their two-week trip.

Brandon and Ashley were cuddled on the couch in the living room. He was caressing her face while she rested her head on his strong chest.

“So, what was that at the lake earlier?” he asked in a serious tone.

Ashley let out a brief laugh. “Don’t get all serious on me,” she replied playfully. “When both of us know that you enjoyed the hell out of it.”

Brandon chuckled. “Yeah, maybe I did,” he agreed, rolling a strand of her blonde hair around his finger. “My point is that maybe you shouldn’t do it in front of everyone else, that’s all.”

“Sorry,” Ashley apologized. “Sometimes I can’t control myself.”

“It’s okay, I love that about you,” he was quick to reassure her. “I just wonder how embarrassed we’d be if someone besides Zack saw what we were doing.”

Ashley frowned and lifted her head to face her boyfriend. “Zack saw us?”

Brandon nodded. “Uhum,” he confirmed calmly. “Heather did too.”

The blonde groaned. “Oh my god, that wasn’t supposed to happen.”

“But it did, that’s why I’m telling you to be more careful,” Brandon said before his serious face turned into a smile. “Don’t get me wrong, I love your random bouts of horniness as much as the next guy, but you should be more cautious in the future.”

“Yeah,” Ashley agreed. Deep in her mind, though, the young blonde cheerleader couldn’t fathom why she felt a rush run through her body when Brandon said they had been watched by Zack and Heather.

On the deck, Zack, Chloe and Gavin were sitting on the chaises, chatting amiably. That is, Zack and Chloe were talking while Gavin played a game on his phone. They were getting just a little bit annoyed with their friend for spending the entire trip so far with his nose buried in that phone of his, they came to the cabin to have fun and do things they couldn’t normally do in town. Still, Gavin was doing the exact same thing he already did almost all the time.

However, Zack had other things to nagging at his mind, such as Victoria and Kurt talking in an annoying friendly way in the kitchen inside the cabin. “Damn, look at her, laughing at everything Kurt says,” the dark-haired boy cursed as he observed his crush and the older guy through the glass doors.

“Zack, you know what you have to do,” Chloe chimed in. “Talk to her before she thinks she has fallen for him. We all know how legendary Victoria’s bad taste in guys gets.”

“I know that, Chloe, but,” Zack paused to take a deep breath, the whole situation was starting to physically affect him. “Every time I think I’m ready to talk to her, something happens or I chicken out of it.”

“Put it like this,” Chloe stared at her best friend with a serious look. “Can you really go through with seeing her date someone else again, acting all lovey-dovey while you keep twiddling your thumbs, dreaming about her?”

She’s right, as always, Zack thought with a sigh. Every time Victoria announced some guy would take her on a date, he felt like his heart was losing a piece, and every time it hurt a bit more. “Yeah, let’s see what happens,” he finally conceded. Although, he wasn’t confident on being able to pry Victoria away from Kurt.

Chloe then turned to Gavin. “How about you, Gavin?” she asked, a curious eyebrow raised. “Don’t you think you should turn off that phone and try to socialize a little?”

“Sure,” Gavin paused his game and shot her an awkward smile. “As soon as you dive into that lake in a bikini in front of everyone.”

“Touché,” Zack laughed and even Chloe had to as well. Chloe was the only girl who his friend was comfortable talking and joking like that, aside from Victoria after they became lab partners. Sometimes Zack even thought that Gavin saw Chloe as one of the guys.

A tap on the window from Heather interrupted their laugh and was the cue they needed to return to the cabin for lunch.

What happens next?
