Arriving Home

Samantha pulled into the driveway as they reached the home that, according to the map, would be where they would be living from this point forward. Gavin took a bit of time to look around the neighborhood as they passed and noticed quite a few people walking about. It was the middle of August so it was hot, dry, and muggy but compared to the desert heat of Tuscon, Portland was something of an oasis. They were apparently living in a decent portion of town where the houses were newer and a bit bigger than the older suburbs they had left behind.

Samantha's husband, and Gavin's dad, was standing out in the front yard as they turned and as he walked over, both of them got a good look at the man. He was a bit on the tall side, about maybe 6'3", and although he was graying at the sides, you could tell he had dark brown hair that was still thick and wavy. He carried himself like a former track star would, straight and with an open stride. Demeanor-wise, from his smile and warm welcoming aura, the man was definitely a big change for the two of them. Not heavy-set by any means, though broad chested with thick leg and thigh muscles, arms were muscled as well but not like he spent his life in the gym, just that he kept toned and properly fit. No facial hair either, that was a turn-off for both of them and both were somewhat glad to see that.

"Hey, welcome home," he said, first shaking Gavin's hand and looked him in the eyes (Gavin was a bit on the taller end of things, maybe about 6'4", so there was a sense of pride in Samantha. "I'm your dad, Richard."

"Nice to meet you, dad." The two exchanged a warm hug before the man turned and looked at Samantha and reached down gently, taking her hand and pulling her in towards him. Gavin watched with a bit of amusement as Samantha's face turned slightly red and a small gasp as the man picked him up and pulled him in for a hug. "Easy there, mom's a bit tired."

"Sorry, didn't realize that..." he gently sat her back down on her feet. "Well, come on in!" He motioned for them and took Samantha's bags and offered his hand out to her. "I mean that, welcome..."

Samantha blushed again but took his hand. This was definitely different, alright, but she didn't mind.
