Nothing, but when you arrive you meet the school bullies

When you arrive at school you are a little out of breath. But made it in time. Most students are already in their classes but a few enjoy their last minutes before the first lesson. You hurry to class but are stopped soon when you see school bully Jack. Jack is a big guy but a quite dump one. He already failed college two times and this is his last chance. His bad grades and long list of broken rules would normally justify to throw him out. But there are rumors his mother has some kind of shady deal with the director.

You were sometimes Jack’s victim in the past but since you started to fight back he mostly leaves you alone. But he has other victims. Today it is Paul, a guy in his first year at college. He is a nice guy but also chubby and a huge nerd. You don’t judge him, but Jack does. In the moment, Jack and two of his henchmen press Paul to a corner while a third one searches his bag for something valuable, important or embarrassing. You know the bell rings in a few moments, so you decide to step in, since Jack has little time to deal with you.

“Jack, leave Paul alone and go play somewhere else!” you say loud and all four bullies turn around.

“Mind you own shit you looser,” Jack says and gives you an angry look.

“Come on, aren’t you a little old to play these games,” you ask, “I mean, Paul is alone and you are four. Don’t you already consider this to be coward by yourself?”

“Watch your mouth you freak,” Jack yells and lets go of Paul, “you are just another looser I can beat up with no consequences. Maybe I ignored your pathetic ass too long and you now think you mean something in this shitty town. I should begin to show you your place again.”

“Hey, what is this?” a voice next to you asks, “looks nerdy. Are you in this elven shit too? Like Pauly, the grandmaster of nerdism?”

You were so focused on Jack that you didn’t saw one of his henchmen sneaking up next to you. The guy took the book form Sarah out of your bag and passed it to Jack. Now he blocks your path so you can’t get it back.

“Hey, give it back,” you demand quiet, “I got this from Sarah.”

“I thought this little slut finally ignores you,” Jack says mocking, “for a pathetic looser, you still have too much friends. I guess they feel pity for you. And why does the bitch gave you and empty book?”

“Maybe it’s a notebook or a diary,” one of the henchmen assumes, “my little sister has one with fairies. Despite this it looks the same.”

You are not sure what they are talking about. The book is not empty. There are hundreds of spells and receipts for magic potions.

“Hey, Jack, write something in it,” one of the bullies says cheerfully, “something that matches this looser.”

“How about: I smell like piss,” Jack suggests laughing and puts his pen down.

But then something strange happens. In the moment the pen touches the paper a flash of light and a loud bang appear. It is followed by Jack screaming in pain and something falling to the ground. Then you smell burned hair and flesh. When your eyes calm down from the flash light you see Jack on his knees clutching his own hands in pain. You also see your book on the ground. When you take a closer look at Jack, you see he has burning marks on both hands.

“What the hell is going on here?” a teacher yells angry and looks around, “was this illegal firework? That’s strictly forbidden. Oh, I see. Jack. Wo else?”

“What?” Jack asks shocked, “no! I … this book. It blew up in my hands.”

“This perfectly intact book?” the teacher asks angry, “blew up in your hands? Who do you want to fool with this pathetic story? You brought illegal firework to school and it blew up in your hands. How stupid are you to buy this illegal black marked shit? You will come with me! I take care of your hands. And until next month ends you will stay in detention! And for the rest of you, don’t’ you have classes?”

With this everybody hurries to get away. Normally you would enjoy it that Jack got trouble, but you can’t concentrate now. Too many questions trouble you. Where did this sudden bang came from? And why said Jack and his henchmen the book is empty. This makes no sense. Quite you grab your book and go away. Paul follows you and thanks you for helping him. But you barely listen, until you arrive at class.
