I left Jerry and Brian and found my way to class. I was excited if I'm completely honest. I always loved history. I hurried to class and was lucky enough to find a seat next to my friend on the bus. "Hey, Karen right?"

"That's right."

"Sorry, it takes me a minute to learn names."

"That's fine. You'll be saying my name a lot soon enough." Her smile reminded me of the looks my boyfriend would give me...I wonder what he's doing now.

"Hey, look at this." I showed her my schedule and the typo trying to get my mind off of my long-distance love. "Herstory. " I explained when it seemed like she didn't get it.

"Okay?"

"It's a typo. Just thought it was chuckle-worthy."

"Oh." It was like a flip had switched and she understood, "It's not a typo."

"What?"

"Something to do with inclusivity or some such. I usually nap during this class."

"What? History is amazing!"

"Hmm." She already was making a pillow of her jacket she must have kept in her locker specifically to make a pillow for this class. "Maybe you can change my mind some time. Just as well I may change yours."

Pfft, yeah right. History was full of such twists and turns she could never make me lose my love for it. The late bell rang and the teacher strode in. "Told you I'd make it." She held up a coke bottle to the class. "I see we have a transfer," she examined a clipboard for a moment, "Michelle Doe, correct?"

"Yes, ma'am." I tried to hide my enthusiasm. I didn't want to be labeled a brown nose on my first day.

"Great. I'm Mrs. Carlow. Just to catch you up, this semester we're going to be learning about local history. Such as the founding of the town and the major local events that happened here." I couldn't imagine such an isolated town had many major events but still, I was curious. "The town of Adam Falls was founded in 1825 by a gang of cattle rustlers who were trying to escape prosecution." Wow. Clearly, my amazement showed on my face as she gave me a bright smile. "I don't want to waste time rehashing what we've already gone over I'm afraid, so you'll have to get with someone if you want to learn more." I nodded and looked to my already sleeping neighbor. Well, maybe there's someone else I could get with.
