Chapter 9 by Sidian Sidian

Does anything interesting happen at the grocery store or does your day continue at home?

It all comes crashing down

The drive to the store felt like it was taking such a long time, sure in reality it's about a twenty minute drive in all this stop and go traffic but with your mind not even focusing on the drive itself, time felt as if it was going slower for you. Gripping the steering wheel harder as you come to another stop you focus on the solid red light ahead of you as your mind starts to wander again.

A handful of years ago.....

"Stop it, Vincent!" Brielle gives you a playful nudge in the side of your arm as you continue to laugh at the brunette. "It's not funny at all!"

"Well..." you bring your thumb and index finger almost together, holding them a millimeter apart, "Maaaaaybe a teeny tiny bit." your cheeks feel as if they couldn't bunch of any harder you were in such a jolly mood.

"You're an ass." she jests before stepping back up to the stove where she continues to mix together some type of liquid that was simmering in a pot.

Two weeks ago, your mother passed away due to an unexpected brain aneurysm. It's apparently something that was completely painless and she was gone in a matter of seconds but it came out of no where. You were struggling pretty hard these past weeks and Brielle was doing everything she could to try her best to cheer you up. On this night, that included inviting you over to her apartment so she could cook you up a favorite meal of yours, one your mother use to always cook, Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. No, it wasn't a super intricate or difficult dish to cook but that's not what matters, it's the thought that counts.

"We'll just cook it down a little extra!" Brielle continues to stir the simmering pot, "I thought you said two cups of half and half!"

"No, two HALF cups of the heavy cream and milk." you tease back.

"Then why did I buy half and half?!" she questions herself as she shakes her head back and forth.

"You can use half and half as well if you want." you shrug, "My mom never did but it's basically the same thing." you step up to the stove as you look at the too liquidy Alfredo sauce, "Yeah, we can cook it down, should still turn out fine."

"This is why I don't cook!" she rebuttals, "I should have just bought this meal from a store, dumped it in a plate and pretend it was home made." she looks at you, giving a smirk.

It was a great night alone with Brielle. She really did do her best to take your mind off the terrible incident that happened to your mother. Being able to laugh and joke again, being able to smile, allowing your eyes to be watering up from laughing instead of sadness, she was great. She was the perfect best friend.

"Plus come on, Bri!" you tell her as you reach down with your hand to pick up an already cooked noodle, "At least you didn't mess up the pasta..." you start to say as you pop the noodle into your mouth, noticing it had a little extra crunch then it should and wasn't completely cooked all the way either. She must have noticed the look of concern on your face because you just give her a big Cheshire smile pretending everything is all good.

"I hate you." her eyes glare as she points the Alfredo covered spoon in your direction, "At least I can't mess up the wine!" she uses her other hand to lift up her stem glass which is half full of red wine. Bringing the rim of the glass up to her lips, she sucks down a few mouthfuls.

"Yeah, true true..." you bring up your own glass of wine and take a swig, "Plus with another glass or two of this, I'm sure the food will taste good as well!"

"Ass!" her somewhat annoyed, yet sarcastic voice replies immediately.

The sound of a car horn brings you back into the here and now and you instantly lay off the brake and start to accelerate. Once more, at the stop light you were day dreaming about all the good memories you've had of Brielle and were not paying attention to the commute to the grocery store at all. It wasn't until you were in the middle of the intersection that another horn was blasting from your left. As you turn your head, something was off, two head lights of a bigger F150 truck were only moments away from impacting the side of your vehicle.

Before you know it, there was a ear piercing loud crashing sound, your body went limp as the impact causes your head to whiplash and it was only half a second later your consciousness went blank.

Is everything alright? Where do you wake up at?
