It's the beating of the terrible heart!

"Alright break it up lovebirds." I jumped outta my skin as a fat woman walked in. Judging by the stethoscope she was the nurse, or she mugged the nurse.

"We-"

"I know I know." He took Bobbi and sat him down in a chair which she kicked under him just before he missed entirely. She's done this before I think. "Now you can stay if you want," she addressed Bobbi like I wasn't even there, "but you stay put okay?"

"Sure thing hun." Bobbi smiled.

"Okay, your turn." She pulled a lever and the back of my bed shot up into a fully seated position. "Close one eye." She shined a pin light in my eye and slowly waved it in my face, "And the other one." Same as before. "Okay, how many fingers?"

She held one hand to my eye and held up "Three." fingers with the other.

"Now?"

"Two." She changed sides. "One." And again. "Twelve." That got her. Bobbi slapped my thigh but I could see him smiling, trying not to laugh. Maybe I should ask her about this weird feeling in my chest. "Okay. Four."

She wrote on her clipboard, "Eyes. Fine."

"I think so too." Bobbi beat me to it but...that feeling in my chest again. I really should ask her about it.

"Give it to me straight doc, how's my face? That's my moneymaker." I chuckled nervously and I could hear Bobbi giggling.

"Aside from a nasty bruise and an immature sense of humor you're fine."

"How long until he's cute again?"

Did he call me cute? "Hey, I'm cute now!"

"Oh, darlin' no." Bobbi held up a makeup mirror and showed me the massive bruise on my face. It was green and purple and definitely not cute.

"Ew, that's not good. Any chance this'll clear up by five?" I really didn't want to explain how I got a bruise the size of a grapefruit on my face.

"Doubtful. You'll probably have the shiner for a week or so."

"My poor baby." Bobbi kissed my bruise gently.

"Okay unless you have any other issue go on to lunch then class."

I really should ask about the pounding in my-"Wait I can't go home?"

"Fraid not. Besides, it's only a few hours."

"Come on darlin'." He pulled me to my feet and we walked out. I guess I was starving anyway.

Bobbi insisted on holding my hand 'in case you fall' he said but I think he just wanted the excuse. The way he held my hand now was certainly different from before gym. Who knew al I had to do was get knocked out by a lady gorilla to get it back. Bobbi also insisted on putting my food on his tray too and him carrying it. I'm starting to think he's overcompensating for how mean his sister was. "Hey, there's Michelle."

"Where?"

"Ahh, she's gone." She and some other girl disappeared behind the wall. I didn't think any more of it and chomped on my burger. The food at my old school sucked but here it was amazing.

"So, would you want to come over later?"

I choked and coughed up my burger, "I mean I probably could but I don't have a car."

"Just get off with me silly." Uh... there's that chest pounding again. "Get off of the bus when I do and we'll...hang out or whatever at my house for a bit."

"Will your sister be there?"

"No, no, no. She has weightlifting to do."

"Great."

"Yeah, my parents won't be back til' late either."

"Great." I think I have a date. I don't really know how I feel about that.
