Guardian of the Tenth Floor
New memories flooded inside his head as the scenary changed around him. No longer was he in the underground lake, he was sitting on a set of stairs, deep within the tenth level, the forbidden level where the strongest npcs reside. Falthène Life Heartmade was now a floor guardian, of the only floor that didn't had one. His background changed in accordance to his new role, he wasn't simply a drowned fairy now, but the guardian of the great library Ashurbanipal, and the older of the book of reality.
As reality was altered, details kept coming as he hold onto his old reality, keeping track of who he is and was was becoming harder. Knowledge of hundred of spells, of the abilities of his world item, of his new class and skills... He would feel nauseous if he wasn't an undead, a particulary high one, unique even. In this new reality, where his hundred of level where distributed between libromancie and his two race tree, the peculiar combination of thoses three specialties unlocked a new class : Dreamer. A class atteinable only by an old scholar (the highest level of libromancie) who had both affinity with life and **** .
More care was also put in his behaviour, he felt more defined, habits and hobbies were more easy to remember, relationship too, as if before he was only vaguely there, now he had left a real footprint on reality. He thought briefly, now he had a passion and talent for painting, read almost all the books here that could be read, capable of summoning any monster sealed in the rest. Titus Annaeus Secundus was still the librarian in chief, with all his knowledge and authority, but he was refering to him ultimately now.
He scratched his head, finally, the colossal amount of information stopped, he fully grasped who he was now, for now. He flipped through the pages of the book in his hand, not the world item, but a book he already read in this new reality. As said, he read most of the books here, what was left were not to his taste, and to pass time he had to reread them. Not much happens on this floor, nobody ever invaded past the eight level, and he didn't want to change that with his book, it could bring disaster if used it that way. Still, if only something was to happen, to chase off the boredom... Maybe lord Momonga will visit the library today, that would be entertaining. Having the visit of the last supreme being was an honor and never got old, although it happened less and less as time passed.
He perked up, standing in a swift motion before taking the stairs to the rez-de-chaussée of the library. Being an undead of a high level, his hearing was particulary sharp, and he heard footsteps coming in this direction. Down the alley from where they were coming from, this place was the only destination left, no door before the one opening to this sanctuary of knowledge built at the hands of the 41 divine beings. He tried to make out the name of the visitor before they opened the door - yes, he was that bored - and reduced the possibilities to one person. Not many npcs where allowed to be at this floor, and much lest were wearing such high heels. As she opens the door, the sight of her black wings confirms the suspicion of the fairy. Such beautifull wings, compared to his, they were piece of arts, they would be, if he was allowed to paint them with the darkest black he could find, to do them justice.
"Regeant Albedo, what brings you here today ?"
The beauty answered to the name, an angelic smile plastered on her face, able to melt the coldest of hearts, thought the scholar. "Falthène, it's always a pleasure to see you. I'm however here to announce you that our lord has called for all floor guardians to reunite at the colloseum of the sixth level."
"Did he ? How... novel. Well, did you come here to get congratulated ?"
"All, floor guardians. Falthène."
"I heard you right the first time."
"... This includes you."
"... Oh ? Oh ! Of course it does, yes yes. Should i accompagny you there then ?"
He could swear he saw her smile twitch and become just a tiny bit more genuine, she must have been amused by his behaviour. For her, he always was a floor guardian, but to him, this was something that happened today. "I have to relay the message to thoses able to come."
"So you are going to meet with Demiurge so that he can tell it to everyone. I'll be sure not to make our lord wait."
"I trust that you won't... He looked worried, i don't yet know why."
"If lord Momonga is worried, so should we. He is far smarter than we could dream to be, maybe he understood something we are too slow to."
She nods, amongst the npcs of Nazarick, only three people could be called the smartest, Albedo, the regeant of all floor guardians, Demiurge, the floor guardian of the seventh floor and administrator of the communication system of the great tomb, and Falthène, the guardian of the tenth floor and the so-called "Living Necronomicon" for all the knowledge he gained and collected, even if he could be a bit airheaded. Yet thoses three couldn't even come close to the abitrer of the supreme beings, nor did they dare try to think so.
Maybe there was a fourth one that could be called such, the ellusive npc created by lord Momonga himself, but nobody knew anything about him, aside from Albedo thanks to her position.
"Still, he was so daring today. He touched my hair and smelled me, it's just as good as asking me to bear his children right ? Right ?"
"Did he ? Lucky you... I'm not sure about that however. Sure for us it's an intimate act, but he is a being far superior. Maybe it holds a different meaning to him ?"
She smirked "Do not let your jealousy cloud your mind, librarian. The meaning of thoses actions is clearly universal. Our lord simply is seeing me as a woman worth being by his side, in his bed even !"
"... Shouldn't you go instead of gloating ? I have to prepare myself to face our lord."
"Yes i shall, see you soon."
... "Tsk, if i could pass as much time as you by his side..." He shook his head, better her that could bear his children than him first, he rationnalized. Being devoted to his god was one thing, but the fairy simply loved him at a point far beyond devotion. How could he not ? The overlord was a being of unfathomable knowledge and magical intuition, the perfect mage, the most powerfull one. A scholar such as himself would sacrifice everything to be at his side day and night, to learn of his genius, to see the world how he sees it. If he doesn't change his gender to match the taste of that supreme being however, it's because he would not dare change the work of his creator for something so selfish, and also because he did not know if staying as he was could not lead him to at least being a concubine that he would indulge himself with for a taste of novelty. He was fine with that, maybe a bit too much, but the perverted tastes of his creator seemed to have dyed him in a way.
