Chapter 3

Where do the Normality Cards appear?

Game Night in the Shared House.

The city. Two hundred square miles of bustling streets, towering buildings, and people looking to find their way in the world. In order to live in the expensive suburbs, six friends and college graduates have banded together, sharing the responsibility of renting a house.

Friday they had game night, and it was Joshua's turn to pick the game. Rummaging through the cabinet shelf he saw the old reliables: card and board games, he picked out the scrabble box, and held it in his hands. Unexpectedly, there was a little wooden box behind it that Joshua didn't recall seeing before.

He took out the box, it was large enough to hold a deck of cards, and surprisingly light in his hands. The handmade style made it looked like it could have been an antique, but the wood showed no signs of the chipping, fading, or staining that should come with age. A diagonal grid pattern was carved into the lid of the box, and the Words "Normality Cards" were carved on the front. Joshua opened the lid, and saw the cards inside. The figure of a naked woman painted in art nouveau style looked back at him, her nudity was contrasted with a demure expression, that just seemed oddly... normal.

"An adult game?" Joshua thought. Perhaps it belonged to Kevin, the other male roommate, but it seemed a little too refined to be something that he would own. A few game nights in the past have gotten slightly raunchy, so maybe everyone would be up for it. Joshua decided that he would show everyone what he had found, and if they didn't want to play, they could just do scrabble instead.

Joshua walked out into the living room, and saw Isabelle, or Izzy as she liked to be called. She was a tomboyish girl who played on the local softball team. "I brought scrabble" Joshua said, "but I think I also found a game for old-timey perverts?"

"No way, dude!" Izzy laughed while looking into the box "You should see if you can convince everyone to actually play it, I'd definitely be down."

Kevin and Melissa were still at work, while Amanda and Naomi were out at the mall. With the boxes out on the table, game night was ready to start as soon as everyone got back.

How does game night start?
