Follow up around the fire

Rachel says, “The next day was pretty uneventful. We packed up and left.”

Phoebe says, “It sounds like you had a pretty good experience swinging. How did it ruin your friendship with the other couples?”

“Did you not hear the part about the gay sex and sodomy?” Ross asks. “I could never look at Nick and Zach the same. It was disgusting and as a Christian, I can’t condone that behavior.”

Monica says, “That’s very hypocritical. You didn’t seem to have a problem with Rachel with Courtney.”

“That’s totally different and you know it,” responds Ross on the defensive.

Rachel adds, “We were just playing around. But what Zach and Nick were doing felt so real. It’s like they planned the trip so they could have authorized gay sex with each other. It made since why they didn’t have a problem not having sex with me.”

Phoebe clarifies, “So you’re no longer friends with them because you think Zach and Nick are gay?” Ross and Rachel don’t respond. “I think that’s homophobic. You guys seemed like you had such a great time. I can’t believe that Nick and Zach enjoying a spectrum of sexuality ruined it for you.”

The group is silent. We all sit drinking. I decide to break it and ask, “So did you make your son that final night?”

Disappointment crosses Rachel’s face. She says, “Unfortunately not. It took a lot of money and the help of doctors to get pregnant with our son.”

Shit. Another downer answer. The conversation around the campfire has grown to a halt.

Joey speaks up, “I’m going to be honest. If Nick and Zach invited me and Phoebe on a trip, I would definitely join them. That sounded like a lot of fun.”

Monica says, “We’ve never done any swinging or anything like that. But I would say yes too. An amazing beach vacation without kids? Sign me up.”

Ross says, “They probably still take their trips. But be aware, they’ll probably try to fuck Chandler in his booty hole.”

“You should do it,” Rachel recommends, finishing her drink. “It was a good experience. The end was a little jarring. But since y’all seem cool with gay sex, you’d probably love that part.”

Rachel and Ross get up and leave the campfire. Phoebe looks at me and Monica, “So let’s talk about if we’re serious about trying to join.”

“I’ll call Zach right now,” says Joey. “I’ll wake his ass up. Let’s get on this trip!”
